Just like Gordonik said, communities are formed out of protecting each other and protecting ourselves. But I think the bottom line is community is made up of people's who care about each other, who know each other and are there when the chips are down

In fact, that's what makes us so interesting. Being members of our own community, our smaller communities and being members of the universal community makes people more empathetic, and it makes people way more interesting. I'd love to hear your ideas about how we can build bonds between people, very different people, people who live in different communities, and how we can build up this idea of shared human community

A community is made up of many different kinds of people, and there's always going to be people floating on the edges. I'm reminded of this sitcom community created by Dan Harmon that is basically about a community College study group of a bunch of disparate people becoming a community. That's what the main character says at the end of the first episode. You have stopped being a study group and you have become a community. And that kind of introduces a question, where is that line of community?
