Star Trek vs Star Wars

article image placeholderUploaded by @MK1981
We're all late thirty s, forty plus, and every one of us would much rather be a trekkie because the idea of living in a post conflict civilization, what they would actually call, I think, a type four civilization, I forget how the numbers were, but I know that right now we're currently in a type one going towards type two

Star Trek or Star Wars?!!! Whhhyyyy?? Trekkie or Jedi hmmmm!

We were eating crackers and bologna and cheese, watching Captain Kurt. So I grew up. I got Star wars and Star Trek in my blood. But if I had to pick one, can I be a Jedi Trekkie, or can I be a Trekkie? That's a Jedi? Okay. Honestly, I'd always rather be a Trekkie. Really, I would

How cool was that? And I do liked the idea of no conflict. I think it's pretty cool. So from an entertainment viewpoint, I can't pick, but from a philosophical one, definitely a trekkie. Thanks for this. This was really cool food for thought. I hadn't really thought about it. Have a good day. Bye

I remember the episode with the tribbles and, oh, God, beam me up, Scotty. The whole nine yards, so. Love it, love it, love it, love it. Love Star wars, too. So, anyway, thanks for the question. Thanks for the discussion. It was definitely very entertaining and appreciated. Definitely be following you and looking forward to more chats in the future. All right, Michael, have a good week

It's. Thanks for the reply, Bruno. You know, it's funny that you said that. Like, I was thinking, like, wait, I've never seen any of the original Star wars in the movies because they were all made before I was born. But I did see the remastered version of the Empire strikes back, back in, like, I want to say, 96 97 with. With my uncle and his friends. Like, that was, like, transformative

And if I stop and think about it, it does seem to have some feat, some marriage of, if I look at the Jedi, for example, of developing mental grit, of gaining fighting skill, ills, right, in order to navigate the world, it's very much about the individual and bettering oneself for the sake of the individual, and where Star Trek seems to be not only individual stories, but also the collective and how we do these things together

And as you get older, you're kind of seeing, like, hey, if we kind of took care of the world and thought of things in terms of we, instead of me, I'll get the things I want, and it'll be a harmonious place. And one thing I did appreciate about Star Trek, they weren't ridiculous pacifists. They had weapons, they had ways to defend themselves, and they had shields, and they understood that conflict still existed

@MK1981

It's so far beyond and it continues to get faster and faster and we're not equipped to keep up with that intellectually, psychologically, sociologically, et cetera. And so how do we develop maturity when our environment, the things that we're creating, are advancing so much faster? I don't know, but I would like to see that world. And I think you're right. Being a Jedi in a Trekkie world would be better than a Trekkie in a Jedi world

Plus, they had to also know whether to show certain technology to certain planets, because some planets hadn't evolved to the level that they were yet, and others were beyond our evolution. So they had to learn how to, like, they had to hide the Enterprise in one episode, in the newer episode where, well, this wasn't the episode, it's actually the movie, because this race of people didn't know anything about space travel or anything like that

That was really well thought out. Makes me kind of wonder, though, like, even, like, listening to you and thinking about it, it's like, what would it look like if the federation was being led by one of the non western countries? Right? Because it's like it always tripped me out that it's like nobody else figured out space travel. Or did the federation have to be centered around, you know, honest, like, white folk? Right?

Like they only got called upon for the most heinous of crimes. For the most part, I think that the Emperor and his goons and all the stormtroopers and all of those people are much more like cops than Jedi knights are. I think the Jedi Knights are more like warrior monks who every now and then need to get involved, know things that are unsavory. But for me, yeah, I don't just

One of the things I loved about Star Trek, and I didn't think about this until I was a lot older, was that they live in worlds that are free from conflict, and Earth is a place where people just kind of live their lives. They're not forced to work. There's no such thing as commerce anymore

Still, the fact they just so blindly went along with it says something about their character and the way they treated Anakin, who they supposedly believed was the Chosen one, I don't think was right at all, especially since Anakin's my favorite character, and I really felt for him. So in my opinion, I don't think that I would be a Jedi at all. In fact, I think my interests lie much more selfishly and passionately with the dark side

Oh, this is a twist, all right. You have to expand. Like, what do you mean? You'd be more aligned with the dark side. Because, truth be told, what we consider the dark side. I don't know what makes it evil. That's kind of like when you say that. Now. I'm thinking about it. All I know about Darth Vader is that they blew up a planet. Horrible, shitty stuff, right?

And I know for a fact that if there was such a thing as the Force, well, maybe not everyone, but most people who say they want to be Jedi would not live up to the Jedi code. They would use the Force for their personal gain. They want the Force because of the power it has, the adventure, the coolness. Those aren't things a Jedi believes. Those are things that much more align with the dark side, with the Sith

But, yeah, again, for someone like me, it's too far gone. I've already experienced passion. I've taken a mate. So I would never be allowed in the Jedi order anyway. But interesting. Is this our origin story? Is this how we become at odds? Love this. Actually, I might make this into a short story. Anyway, thanks for your response

I got drawn to Star Trek more when I was older, but the first thing I was drawn to and wowed by was Star wars. Being a Jedi is so exciting. First of all, you can be any type of character from any planet, not just human, but from anywhere. You're connected to the universe, and you can do all sorts of things, and you can travel through space and just as much as you could being a Trekkie
