Body dysmorphia: Let’s Talk!

article image placeholderUploaded by @mediamind
There's the view in the mirror and the view that I see when I see a picture. And I think this goes into a lot of, like, how people edit themselves and just define their features more. I don't have a problem with how people edit their pictures. It makes them feel good. That's fine. But for younger audiences and almost anyone who's looking at those pictures, I think it has a really big effect on them. And I know I catch myself doing it

And I've just been growing up around women who've had plastic surgery, and I kind of hold myself to that standard that like, oh, my body isn't pretty enough, but I think I've gone through a self love journey where I do accept my body for how it is, and I love my natural body and how it looks. But yeah, I think there needs to be more talk about body dysmorphia, and I think a lot of people do go through it

And I'm always like my thought is like good for you, you look great, gain a little bit of weight, who cares? Gain a lot of weight, good for you. That means you must be eating great, like awesome. And they always seem so confident. And I gain £1 and I'm like absolutely not. I'm taking that pound off immediately because I'm so freaked out about how my body looks. The idea of being big really scares me

@gabrudolph Thanks for sharing ❤️

Hey. So I think you're right. Everyone does have a level of body Dysmorphia. And thank you for sharing your story. I know that it's pretty personal, and just the fact that you're on your selflove journey is a really big step and a lot to go through. So give yourself some prompts for that. And I'm glad you made that step for yourself. And also, thank you. Bye

@ZLisbon thanks for sharing ❤️

Why didn't anyone tell me to stand up straight? My rules are showing, like, little things like that. And a lot of my family will tell me, like, shut up, you're skinny. And I can't see it anymore. So it's something just, like an obstacle. I guess I just have to overcome and just practice self love. Like, you're right. It's all about just loving yourself. And hopefully loving my body will come with that

@rachelm I’m SO happy for you! And thanks for sharing❤️

I am genuinely so happy to hear that for you. I know that it takes a lot of strength to do little things like that, like look in the mirror and look at your body, step on the scale and look at your weight. It's definitely something that you have to work towards if you don't like it. And the fact that you said that you love taking pictures now, that is amazing. I'm still going to try and get to that spot, hopefully
