Why God of War: Ragnorok wasn’t Game of the Year

article image placeholderUploaded by @MechNarrative
Yes, you can kill more dudes and become the elderly lord. That's the whole point of the game. The mechanical narrative is that exact same thing. You're exploring and you're trying to get better at combat so you can kill these dudes and become the Eldon Lord. The cinematic narrative and the mechanical narrative are resonant. This is why Eldon Ring one game of the year. It's more of a game leaning on a game's inherent strength as opposed to God of War

An introduction to the theory of Mechanical Narrative and how it applied to Game Awards in 2022. #gamedesign #videogames #eldenring #gameoftheyear

Hey, Kai. How's it going, man? This was an excellent listen, I really, really enjoyed it. As somebody who has yet to play either game, but knows a fair bit about both, what you said is certainly in line with what I hear from most people, which is that Elden Ring is the superior game, but that God of War is great at what it's trying to do

But you could take the gameplay out of God of War Radarock and still have a fantastic story. That's one of the reasons why you can just watch all the cutscenes and call it a day. Another interesting point that you made about so Horizon Forbidden West, I'm not sure if you've ever heard of Zero Punctuation, but this guy, Yazi Crochet, famous game reviewer, he calls them Ghost Train rides, where it's that same sort of open world with set pieces and things like that
