The Magic of Jim Henson

But you also have that raunchiness at times, and that kind of allows it to be enjoyable at any age. I absolutely love Jim Henson's work, even with the Sesame Street puppets and all the films he did like Laughter and Dog Crystal. But yeah, I'd love to hear some of your stories about those moments that you've had with Jim Henson's work as well

Sesame Street, my mother, and a college buddy

Hey, Matt, I am one of the kids in that first generation who got to watch Sesame Street in real time season one. Right? And season two, as it was happening, it was a big relief to my mom, so, oh, yeah. They were a big part of my childhood and grew up got to see the Muppet movie in the theaters. The Muppet Show on TV. It's initial run

@Tim

Hey, Tim, first off, that's so cool about your mom still collecting Muppets. My son was actually born on the anniversary of Sesame Street. And I think just the fact it's still affecting people of all ages like that is such a testament to Jim Henson's genius as well. And then that story about your friend is just amazing. I think it's incredible that just such an unassuming moment ended up becoming such a significant part of his life for solar long. So, yeah

I'm loving hearing these memories. They're wonderful. And I wanted to just point out that here on Swell, you're one degree away from Juliette Blake, who was the vice President and head of Jim Henson Television in 2000. And it's a very Muppet Christmas movie. So she also was really involved with just developing that brand in general have painted her to see if she can come on and say Hi to you guys

Matt, I'm a lot like Tim here and that I grew up with Sesame Street on its first run here. And there are a lot of differences between the show that Jim Henson first created and the show that it is now just a ton of differences. And and I'm going to include a link to just one of those skits that I just think so fondly of when I see it and think so fondly of Jim Henson's magic

Memories of the 25th anniversary live show in Los Angeles

And so we got to go to this great live production of The Muppet Show at the theater. And the stage was set up in such a way that you got to see the puppeteers on the bottom part of the stage and then the work that they were doing with the actual Muppets on top. It was brilliant to watch. And I remember at the time I got this really cool Muppet Show watch that says The Muppet Show 25th anniversary, and I still have it to this very day

So I'm excited not just to have been this conversation, but also, I'm so excited about how we create the next generation of Sesame Street, the evolution, the mutation of it so that we can empower children, especially today with all the social emotional learning issues that are going to stem from this global pandemic and quarantining and lockdowns. We kind of really need to lean in hard into these spaces because kids are really feeling disempowered, disengaged
