However, refining it is a very carbon intensive process. So it seems like EV companies will have two choices. One is using high grade nickel and in turn making their cars more expensive, which will ensure they can't compete with the much cheaper conventional vehicles. The other option is using low grade nickel and increasing their carbon footprint, which is counterintuitive as the point of using EVs was to reduce the carbon footprint whichever option they choose
