But I think the original role of a clown was to say the uncomfortable things no one wanted to say that were socially unacceptable through just and laughter. And that's why they were buffoons. The buffoon had the role of a truth sayer, but saying something in a way that was ridiculous or grotesque or theatrical, but no less true because people put up barriers and resistance towards what's true
