Lisa Wingate does a lot of research and she weaves a beautiful story combining characters who tell the tale and show the actions of what happened to that people and how they were abused, neglected, misunderstood, and she shows how they are part of the original american fabric. It's truly a fascinating tale, but what I like about Lisa Wingate, and she's probably one of my all time favorite authors, is that she always has a surprise ending that seems to wrap the whole book up
