Sacred Again: Art and AI

article image placeholderUploaded by @karin.jervert
What are we worth if easily and quite quietly? You might be happy for AI to write your next blockbuster movie, paint your next masterpiece, even this podcast. You may be happy that AI might even write it. Could you even tell if it was? Listen, I know people shut down in the face of anger expressed as an axe to grind, and I'm not asking you for anything. No one likes a writer with a grudge. And it's true too

But the soul of a cave painter who knew to tell stories on the insides of a cave with ink created by plant dye didn't do it because they were told to or commissioned to. They did it because that was how they expressed themselves. In fact, creativity was really not called creativity back then. I think it was just the language of communicating

There are some really wonderful and sometimes heartbreaking, sometimes inspiring stories over there, and I've experienced all of those things to one extent or another. But the big challenge of my life to overcome has been the challenge of figuring out how to make it as a poet, how to be a poet in the world, which is something that the world makes very difficult

And I agree 100% that the way art is created in a specific time period is so indicative of where we are so listening to how we're relating to AI creating art is so important. Do understand where we are as humankind right now. So thank you again for your response and take care. Bye

Catherine, I wanted to thank you for sharing your story. It was moving to hear you talk about your young adulthood and how it resonated with me as my life and how I've gone through trying to be a quote unquote viable um artist, which so often just means making money which I wish so deeply that we could remove the process of creation and imagination from the exchange of money and the capitalist system
