The Point of Patrick Bateman

article image placeholderUploaded by @jomariexann
Throughout the movie we see the grueling routines that Patrick does in order to become known, such as his intensive skincare routine, the way that he dresses him, arguing about the dry cleaner, about his sheets, even his business card. Patrick is an incredibly insecure man and he wants to relieve that insecurity through material goods, but it really doesn't work. So he just tries to kill people. Well, that is a jump when it comes to logic

Afraid of being unknown to the point of being unknown anyways..

I haven't seen this movie. I haven't put myself through it. And I've seen clips of it. I've seen it referenced, I've seen it parodied. But if you want to make a stronger point about the point of Patrick Bateman, I'd say that he's about being in pain and about being unhinged. And those character qualities make him a great center point for a story, a very fun, thrilling story

But no matter what he does, he will always be unknown and like a ghost and he knows that and that's how he acts out in those unnatural ways because he feels that is the only way for him to truly be himself. He is a very fun protagonist to observe and it's interesting seeing his motivations. I just think he feels so inferior to other people. He has to resort to a naturalist in order to feel like himself
