Rebecca Hall talks about ‘Passing,’ her exquisite directorial debut

We spoke about the reconstitution of cinema that Passing constitutes by placing black actors in the tradition of a 1920 setting and a film that looks very much like a psychological melodrama from those times. With its black and white cinematography and 43 aspect ratio. We spoke about the characterization of the two black women at the center of the story, one of whom is passing for white in her life, the other for whom seeing her friends do this sets off a lot of psychological landmines

Hi, Isaac, thank you so much for sharing this. I'm really excited to see the film. It's been on my list of films to watch. There's been a lot of good stuff coming out recently, and I love the book so much would recommend it to anyone as especially if they think Gatsby is like the great American novel. Read passing. I love Gatsby, but read passing. It's just such a beautiful book

Hi Charlie, thank you so much for replying to this well and talking about passing a little bit. I'm so glad that you know the novel and are such a fan of it. I think based on the story itself, I completely understand your comparison of it with Gatsby and contrasting of it as another contender for that great American novel that is exploring so many of the themes that have been both so latent and so blatant in American culture over the past 100 years and beyond
