INVITING WONDER | #TellYourStory - just one thing that fills you with wonder and gives you perspective when you need it most

Welcome to where the light gets in. This is our swell cast, where we talk about the good stuff of mental wellness. And today we are looking at inviting wonder. And I'm really excited about these ideas because they are like food to my soul. When I hear people's ideas of wonder, it's one of my favorite topics. Here's the prompt for today. Tell me just one thing that fills you with wonder and gives you perspective when you need it most

Hey, guys, it's Seiko Alford from the Seiko show. I love this. I think wonder is childlike. You know how you look over at a stranger's baby and you smile? They look in your eyes and they smile back. That's wonder to me. Or when you're sitting in the back of the plane and a little old lady comes on and she can't lift her bag into the overhead bin, and a young gentleman jumps up and does it for her

Inviting wonder. I'm in awe as my four year old grandson takes in the landscape and scenery as he goes on a trip. The wonder and excitement to be tall enough to go down the water slide. The wonder and excitement of trying different things and having them work out. The wonder of innocence running all about the precious nature of our spirit, the precious nature of ourselves. We have only ourselves to give. Nothing more, nothing less

I believe anyone and everyone can create art. I truly do. But we have to keep that alive within ourselves. I always tell people who are starting out that you may hate your art, but share it anyway. People may comment and say they don't, that they don't like your art, but share it anyway, because the fact remains that you will be someone's favorite artist. And that's what keeps the wonder alive, not only in yourself, but in others

And I remember a few nights, a few cold nights, just driving out to this field, maybe about five or ten minutes away from my town in Virginia, and just pulling my car over into the starken field and looking up and seeing nothing but stars overhead. And I remember those nights and just being filled with awe and wonder and feeling at once small, very small and very tiny, and at the same time feeling at one with the universe and everything

Hi, Deb. So, thanks for introducing Wanda. So, wonder to me would be something that happens to you out of the blue. When you least expect it. And that's something which is a wondrous wonder. Because from blues to electric eccentric blue. It really ignites your soul. And anything, for that matter, is a wonder. Thank you. Cheers. Bye

You know, sometimes if the sky here in Michigan, we have what I often call fill in the blank skies, it'll just be kind of gray and murky. And I say, hey, everybody, just go ahead and draw what you want in the sky today, because there's nothing there. So those kind of days do not fill me with wonder about the skies, but skies often fill me with wonder, and they always have

Like, these little moments that just, like, burst you, and they help you kind of come down again with a different sense of the world. And to keep those feelings extended is a challenge. Like, how do you take that moment of wonder and kind of lay it down like paint on the road ahead of you so you can walk on this new kind of lit up terrain? Because it's got that sparkle of wonder to it. That's the magic, I think

It takes me out of any dark place, and it takes me out of any challenging headspace, even. It's just amazing. So if I were to say anything that I've experienced so far on a consistent basis, it would be just witnessing my son and interacting with him. It always just brightens my mood, uplift my day. So that's my heartfelt response. And I know there's probably plenty more things I could say, but that's definitely top of the list right now for me

The one thing that gives me perspective and wonder is music. I've been a musician most of my life. My mom has a picture of me standing on my tippy toes playing an electric organ. Like in 1970, I could barely reach the keys, but. But I would go over there and she said, I would like just, you know, run my fingers up and down, making the keys move. And she's a musician as well

Hey, Kim. I wanted to thank you for talking about this particular approach to wonder, because I just got a piano in my house about a week ago, and I love it. I'm not a. I'm not a professional piano player. I took when I was a kid. I don't really read notes, but I'm learning my pentatonic scales and I'm learning how to improv. And it's a huge, big sound, this piano particularly. And I'm so excited

And then my grandmother had it, so all of my aunts and uncles played on it, and my mom and myself included, my sister, you know, we all had a chance to play on that, and then my mother inherited it. So it's been in her home for quite some time. And I. That's the piano I would practice on as I was getting ready to go into college and applying for a music scholarship
