RESILIENCE | #TellYourStory - Describe a chapter in your life when your resilience surprised even you
Hello. Welcome to where the light gets in. Each week, we pick a different topic and dive into it. And on Tuesdays, we have a story prompt. This week's theme is resilience. Resilience. And the prompt for today, if you would be willing to think about it, is about a chapter in your life when your resilience surprised even you. You

And he'd be like, you already passed. We just haven't gotten to that day yet. And I really just helped to lean into that because his belief in my ability to succeed definitely was helpful. And it helped me put myself into that framework of, like, there's no reason why I shouldn't trust that I can do this. There's no reason why I can't do this

They could be friends, they could be coworkers, they could be cousins, siblings. It just takes another person to look at you and say, Earl, you already passed it. Just walk in the door. And I think we don't turn towards people enough to ask them to witness our story and be a part of our success and help us with this need to be alive and resilient in a time of challenge

So my insurance was more than willing to take care, and my little red Volkswagen bug was very sincere in their claims to be something that protected me. So I didn't see any physical injuries on me, but I went through a lot of internal injuries in terms of my si joint getting badly damaged and going through periods of not being able to walk. After a month of these things happened, I went through lots of physical therapy

It. You are absolutely right about that. And thank you so much. You'll also be very excited to know I've convinced my husband, Khalil, to be on the platform as well. So he's made his first swell and has more content to share. And I really do love this platform. We're podcasters. We started our podcast in, oh, gosh, I believe, 2017
And even today, as I look back, I have very close friendships that I've formed over the years with people across various places, length and breadth of the country. So I think that would be one aspect that I'd like to share. And of course, the health challenges did continue as an adult, still continue. And I think that's part of our life

But you can take us back also to when things felt really horrible and scary. And that's why these stories are so important, because I think a lot of people might be hearing them from places where they're still cowering in the darkness of something that feels oppressive to their spirit and their physical being. But these stories show the process

It. That's such a true statement. I think for me, because of how I grew up feeling comfortable with emotional vulnerability was not something that was like, there wasn't space made for that. So I think usually whenever I'm feeling sad or down, I generally just try to jump into that solution oriented space just because it's like, well, well, as I grew up, it's like, feelings are worthless, right? It's like, okay, cool, you feel bad

And the resilience was in looking at what was going on in my life and saying, I'm going to not only push through it, I'm going to win. And that leads me into unsuccessful marriages, two and a half of them bad choices. Or as I said, I think I married my mother twice. Both times I was cheated on in overt, hurtful ways and bounced back

And from all the stories I've heard from you so far, it makes so much sense that you were able to resonate with the concept of resilience because you are a living, breathing, vital example of it. And I love how you're cheering us on by telling us we can, too. Thank you. It's really wonderful to hear your voice in this particular conversation

Thank you. Those words are exactly what I'm talking about. And hoping that the message got through, that we all do more than survive, we conquer
