And nowadays, if you want to be an author or published author, you most likely have to create this ginormous hook to hook a person in. You can't write great Gatsby type of stories or Moby Dick type of stories. You need to drop the reader right in the midst of what's happening. And I noticed that with several books, contemporary novels that I read now because those catch my attention

Why is he sitting in a bar in France waiting for some mysterious guy to show up with a just, it was just a very curiosity arousing scene that just kind of pulled you into the book. But then after the book pulls you in, it has to be a good story because if the story is not good, you're just going to put it down because it's just not. But I do remember good books I've read in the past

Hey, Javon, thank you so much for your insights and examples. I've never read a Tom Clancy book, but the fact that you said that it was poorly written, it goes to show that even those books that are traditionally published or popular, even those books can be poorly written. And I was a huge fan of James Patterson. I mean, I love how his books just suck you right in. And he had pretty good books, very good books
