Will religion ever become obsolete?

So I've been a nonbeliever for quite a while now, but I have recently got back into Buddhism. More or less. I've identified as being a secular Buddhist, which is a person who doesn't believe in God that still follows the Buddhist ways. You can believe in God and still be a Buddhist. But it's funny how I've looked around and religion hasn't gone away despite the technological advances, despite the changes in society

Religion morphs. Why do people gravitate towards religion?

What is that going to look like? So whether we're looking for some comfort or an afterlife, a moral code, if these things do go away, then maybe religion would also. But I think some of these things are our psychology. We need them right. We need to feel accepted to be approved of loved. And that's sort of inherent to who we are as humans. So I don't know that we can say that will go away

What are YOUR thoughts?

But those are just my thoughts. What do you think? Like, what would make religion begin to fade? And what would it look like if religion did become obsolete

There would be some discourse between believers who would still cling on to those old traditional ways because of the fact that they don't want to let go or they in their minds, believe that they are doing the right thing
@SeekingPlumb

Is that future a good one? I'm torn. @HeMan493

I mean, if we look at community, we could find other places to find community. So I don't know that it's that imperative that religion fills that role, but trying to find a substitute for comfort and hope, I think that's a big one that would be difficult to fill. So although I think that religion can be destructive, I think it also can be very important for a portion of the population
