Match Preview: Arsenal vs Man United

article image placeholderArsenal vs. Manchester United: Three bold predictions ahead of Saturday
Hey, everybody, this is Taylor from Arsenal, Los Angeles. And tomorrow the Gunners take on Manchester United in the Premier League. The last time we faced them, we won the game one nil back in November. It was our first League win at Old Trafford in what seems like a zillion years. And honestly, I'm feeling pretty good about tomorrow now, having said that we are facing a much different United side, at least in terms of League positions

Yeah. This is going to be an absolutely massive game for us to be able to take three points away from interest to United, bring it to us and pull up the table. Hopefully we can really pull this one off. I think this one's really good going to depend on our midfield defensively. We've been really strong, but Pogba and Fernandez have just been absolutely crazy in the middle. Fred moving on the wings. It's going to be pretty difficult

Alright guys. Tomorrow's the day that we've been waiting for Arsenal versus Manchester United. This is one of the games that we always circle on our calendar when the fixtures are released every single year and last time around, we beat other and Oneil at Old Chitford. And that was a Thomas party master class. So what I'm expecting tomorrow is for the boys to come out there and play for the name on the front. So we'll all remember the names on the back

Yo Logan. So I first want to start with something you said about Pogba now the other day I think it was Clive on the Arsenal Vision podcast. He said something to the effect of Pogba is the best midfielder in the world when he decides he wants to be. And I'm hoping that this is not one of those games because I sort of agree with that statement. I think Pogba is just world class when he puts that extra effort in we'll see what happens

I have to add I actually did not see Chris Wheatley's tweet from about 5 hours ago confirming that a bombing will not be playing tomorrow. So now we know he's not playing tomorrow

I feel like this United side is extremely, extremely overrated. Realistically speaking, they just got beaten by f****** Sheffield United. Like, if Sheffield United can beat these clowns, we can definitely beat these clowns. And I think that it's going to be fun to watch our youngsters against this side. And I feel like we're going to see 21 Arsenal even as long as a week ago

Mark your man defensively on corners and free kicks because they have a specialist with Bruno Fernandes. And yes, I have to agree. Taylor, in 2020, Manchester United has had a penalty almost every game. And also in 2020, we have given up so many penalties in the defensive third, we have to play so smart and strong tomorrow and make sure that when we come to play that our endurance and our minds are sharp

@FlaGooner89

We have a lot of players that love bombing up the wings and getting into that space behind. And I feel like while Hector does make overlap runs, he tends to pass backwards or put in a cross that isn't exactly hitting the Mark. I would much rather see us sort of try to break the lines with the type of pass we saw for that third goal the other day. Not that Cedric is going to do that every single time he has the opportunity

@BrayBray · 1:37

Score first and win.

They'd just be able to hit us with counterattack after counter attack after counterattack. And frankly, I don't like our odds against that. Of course, the inverse applies if we score the first goal and are able to sit deep and spring these counter attacks against other Manchester United who has to open up to get an equalizer. I think we could cause some damage with that and actually maybe get a couple of goals

@BrayBray follow up question...

Bravery. I have a question for you. So this is something that we've touched on a bit here in this chat already. A lot of us don't feel like Manchester United are performing at the level that the League table suggests they are at which is first or second as of the last week. I'm curious. And this is kind of a hard question to answer. So I'll take this with a grain of salt. Where do you think they should be on the League table?

Let’s gooooooooo Gunners!

Hey, guys, this is Sophie from the Highbury squad. Hope everyone's having a fantastic Friday. What a massive game tomorrow. They're all massive at this point. We're out of the FA cup. We have a Europa League to look forward forward to, but we have to play very tough Benfica side. Our Premier League form between now and May is going to be fundamentally important in terms of how we position ourselves as a team. Even next season. We have to have European football

Keep flying the Gooner flag

But the fact that there are so many dedicated fans who get up at 430 in the morning or whatever ungodly hour it is to watch their club, you are just as much of an Arsenal, and as those who go through the turnstiles on game day. So it's really cool to be connected to another extension of the Arsenal family and just wanted to say, Big up to everybody, keep flying the Goona flag

Cedric or Bellerin tomorrow?

Especially, I think with the threat of Cavani and just kind of having other speed and the creativity to link up with our front play and just try not to give the United offense very many chances because as it seems like everyone's in agreement, it's their back that's their weakest link. So I'm curious who people here think we should hope to see tomorrow, particularly in right back Cedric or Belarus

@Taylor

Should is a very loaded question, because other should be where they are. If you're falling into the old cliche of how the League table doesn't lie. And I'm sure Manchester United fans will fall into that cliche. But I'd be tempted to look at their underlying metrics as a team, because just from the I test, I'll admit I'm biased here

@mkliebmann I say Cedric

Cedric, I think causes a little bit more problems for the opposition and I think that his distribution is better last week's pre assist for that third goal is all the evidence you need for that. And I think that his versatility and his creativity in that position. I think when we have someone like Tyranny playing and we have someone like soccer playing, people that love going up those wings getting in behind the space, it's nice to have Cedric as an option there to unlock them

@Taylor

He's not terrible, but there have been a number of times that after he bombs forward, he's got men left open, and there's other guys that have to basically cover for him because he's, like, so far up the pitch and just doesn't really have his head in the game, and he just doesn't quite have even the speed that he really used to to get back and cover

Agreed on Cedric. Thoughts about left sided center half?

I think he got to reward those types of performances with starts, and if he performs at the level that he has been in these last couple of appearances, I don't think we'll have to worry about him too much on the day, but like I said, that's assuming Tyranny is fit and if he's not completely fit, I don't think we should risk him because truth be told, I don't like the sound of a month, two months without him

I like all the great observations that all the speakers have made. My thoughts regards to Tyranny is that if he's fit, he should definitely play and then put Cedric on the right. If he's not fit, then let's go with the same lineup that we had. I guess Southampton two major things. This battle of the game is going to be one in the midfield and on the wings. United loves to counter attacks

@ArmoGooner general consensus seems to be Cedric!

So it sounds like everybody is pretty much on the same page about Tyranny starting on the left, Cedric starting on the right ahead of Bellerin, and that this game is going to basically live and die in that midfield of area and on the wings, particularly because this United team loves to counter attack. I'm kind of surprised to see everybody agree that Cedric is the way to go. I although I think that the common theme here is that consistency is key and the last game was such a delight

#Nowillian

It hasn't seemed like he's done that at all this season. He didn't with Parte coming right out. He didn't with Sores and also Pablo Mari. He kind of waited to let them get their first chances and hopefully that's not the case because we need creativity and having depth in that against Manchester United is I think very crucial to be able to have maybe Parte and Oderguard start with soccer and Pepe on the wings

Also another thing with Cedric Sores and with our wingbacks. If we can't play Tierney just for whatever reason, to start to have Cedric and Bellerin play and have him play in the first half, Belarind exclusively to play in the first half and then to take off for Tyranny and swap the sides

@FlaGooner89 @mkliebmann @HighburySquad @BrayBray @ArmoGooner Willian?

He's been just a tremendously underwhelming signing and at his age, it's not like he's going to provide anything that's going to contribute to the larger picture here or the future in the short term. We were hoping that he would, but it's pretty obvious that he's not going to. So what do we do with him? Do we play him with the hopes that he adds some sort of value to himself so that we can then sell him in the summer?

Shout out to Leno. Leno, Leno Leno. My God, has he gotten back to form? My God, has he not played and saved us quite a few times recently. Just want to shout out him. Rob holding to too Rob Hold has been playing great. I know there's been a lot of criticism towards our players because of how bad they've been and man, have they finally just stepped up. So on a positive note, everyone happy that we're playing well

I would say his best bet, because I think he still wants to be the rock Starions, man. That's the whole thing. They, like, partying and having fun, and that's cool. That's a part of the culture that they're grown up with. But go to China and get the baggage. Get the bag there

Let’s goooooooooo! It’s game day!

Hey, everyone, let's hope that Cedric starts today, that it's Jacqueline Party in midfield, and that the Norwegian Wonder Boy gets 20 minutes in the second half, at least three right into the frying pan in a big game like this. I think that would be great for him to have that baptism of Premier League fire. Let's go
