Similarly, a jam band could be an electronica band with live instrumentation that has extended moments and uses live improv in the same way. It could be like a bluegrass band. The band, the String Cheese Incident, is a jam band, but they combine so many different genres. They'll go from a straight traditional bluegrass number into a 20 minutes long exploration in the Kia B minor

Communicating on stage @pigeonfunk

And the shows I've been to, they're just an incredible experience, and I love to bring some of their voices in. But I have a question leading up to that, which is about your relationship to any particular song at any particular time. And I'm really fascinated with the it's like when you watch classic jazz artists, you just kind of go, wow. Like they're talking, they're talking big time and they're communicating big time, and you want to disappear

On stage communication

A big thing that helps with that is we've been playing together for so many years. We have that 10,000 hours thing down where we can sort of almost read each other's minds to a degree at this point. And we know how to finish each other's sentences musically. Another huge component that helps is visual cues

Amazing concert (!) and cover tunes approach

The theme of listening. I love it. It's very much. Part of my whole obsession with audio in general is like the art of listening and how we because we listen deep, we get to feel and understand each other more. And I so get that at the musical level as well. Today, I listened to your concert you had from the Brooklyn Bowl. It was awesome. It was the Super Bowl halftime celebration. I loved your shirts, and anybody who missed that. It was extraordinary

So when we pick a cover song to learn, we always start by listening to it and making sure we're like, hey, can we make this fit our vibe? What can we do to either change it? What can we do? How can we embellish or is this just just going to fit really nicely with our sounds or instrumentation? And sometimes we'll end up playing the song pretty straightforward
