Thoughts On Tracy Chapman & Luke Combs And The Magic Of Popular Culture

article image placeholderUploaded by @GlennPriceMann
And Tracy Chapman is such an amazing performer, and I think Luke Holmes cover, I also love that, too, and I think it really disconnected with people. But why is this performance particularly is because we don't really have many moments like this anymore when it comes to popular culture. Popular culture has become siloed in many ways between streaming and social media. Many popular things now exist in a bubble unknown to a great deal of people

Glenn, I totally agree with your insight on this. It is rare we see hijacking of different styles for the purpose of kind of bolstering somebody's approach, sort of the sampling culture. But this was such a reminder of not only being inspired, um, by the collaborative energy on that stage, but also how timeless messages are that come through music and how it just touched so many different personal stories when people sort of held space for listening to this

And I don't want to be dismissive of someone else's art, but it's interesting to think that it took this long for those two folks, Tracy and Joni, to really have their moment at such a prestigious award show. Know, time and time again, I feel like the spotlight is given to folks who, I don't know, either because of merit or because of my own opinion of their music, don't necessarily deserve that sort of attention yet. I don't know

Hey, Deborah, thanks for listening and for re swelling and sharing your thoughts. And you're so right about music. Music has this unique ability, probably more than any other art form, to just immediately connect with you and invoke memory and cross. So this is just one of those great moments. I think it's so cool that you got to meet her, Tracy Chapman, on more one occasion, and I think that's amazing

And I was like shocked to hear that Joni Mitchell in her long esteemed career had never performed on the Grammy stage. So that was like a real sort of shocker to even know that. So yeah, lots of just like I said, really memorable award show. Now I got to respectfully defend Dua Lipa Future nostalgia was like the album of 2020. You got to listen to that. That's a really fun album. Thank you for listening, for sharing

And I think it's the words. And I just was marveling at the connection that across the world, right, cutting through boundaries, cutting through cultures that her music rather has made with me, spoke to my heart. And I think ultimately, that is the meaning of connections, right? That is the meaning of art. I think that is the reason why art exists, to cut through these differences and to bring us together at some level, forge that connection that talks to the heart, right?

And here's a cassette, here's a record, here's a CD, and there's something really special that I think we've kind of lost, even though I love having access to so much music through Apple Music or Spotify. But the idea of receiving the physical copy and reading the notes and all the song lyrics and things like that, I really love that memory. So thank you for sparking that, and thank you for sharing your thoughts. Really appreciate it
