Ethics Epi06: durum arbitrium

article image placeholderUploaded by @FryedOreo
You have three choices, and these are the consequences of each choice. If you listen to this swell, I'll be very annoyed. If you respond to this swell, I'll be very angry. And if you like this swell, I'll be very sad. Those are your three choices, and those are the consequences of each choice. Can you choose wisely?

Thank you for…. Listening. #ethics

We're seeing as I don't take any responsibility for your emotions or the reasons that you choose to have those emotions to certain stimuli. I am choosing to respond just because it's hard to resist and I don't want to resist pressing that big red button. I have replied, and now I shall like it, and it is up to you how you choose to feel

But in this particular case, in the scenario that you presented, I don't think there is. This is not one of those situations. This is like you choosing to have those emotions as a result of these actions. And obviously, you're not choosing those feelings, but why would you? And if you were, I'm just sorry. My brain is total mush

I'm always keenly aware of what people think. I'm supposed what people think that it is that I do out here and what they think that this well is going to be. When they see the git, when they see the gift, the giF, when they see the caption, when they read the transcribe, I want to still startle them. And I guess this was one of those things that I felt was necessary

You might as well do podcasting, where you don't get much feedback at all. So if you want people to like or reply, there has to be some degree of that that you're also giving to other people, or other people can't see by example what to do. And it's, you know, I mean, people can do whatever they want, but I think that, like, the more that I see this pattern, it seems of people only creating and not interacting

Social audio versus broaden audio, like streaming things along those lines, you know, swell strongly encourages you if you want to get more engagement put it out there, you know, not, not in this community, but put it out there in the world. And yeah, the person gets like 30 likes and thousands and thousands of listens, and it doesn't even seem like swell. It doesn't. It feels like swell is nothing more than just a podcast hub

And then you have, like a dice or an app that can give you a random number between one and however many of those items you have. And then it gives, it selects something for you, which creates the randomized unexpectedness, but also then sparks potentially imagination and creativity for you. So it keeps everyone on their toes, you the listener. That's kind of an interesting idea

For the newcomer who is just experiencing what the platform can bring, there is a lot of a lot of concerted effort on that apps behalf to keep that person on the platform. And as you mentioned, whether they stay or not, there's always a toss up. I have found there does seem to be more sticking tissue to people being here because you have the partnership thing where you can get monetization, so that makes it a little bit different of an experience in its own right

There was also no. There was nothing in the description that you could tell what the prompt was originally, and people would then create their swells, and you had zero context, and they didn't necessarily tell you what prompt they were using or what the prompt was. And so I felt like I had no idea what people were talking about or why they were talking about it

Yeah, you're absolutely right. Prompts are great for new beginners who come onto the platform and they actually are excited by a new prompt each day. And they seem to be having new series of prompts for people to choose from. So that's cool
