Are we meant to be coupled, forever?

article image placeholderUploaded by @FryedOreo
This is why you need a mate. That's one of the premises in this film, by the way. Very entertaining and fun. Those who are in relationships, how is the relationship? How many years have you invested and is this your first go around with the marriage or is this your 2nd? 3rd? 4th? 5th? Do you feel the societal pressure to remain in a relationship even if you don't actually feel for that person in any profound or meaning way? Scary, isn't it?

Why does it feel wrong at times to be.. single?

But on the other hand, let's say we're choosing mates. We got 40 days. Let's do it. It seems levelless. Well, you're just doing it to stay alive. But then it had me thinking, okay, you're just doing this to stay alive in this human experience. Which means somewhere along the way, you fell in love with this human experience. And you are actively choosing, no matter what, to continue in the human experience because you love it

We would rather be in a horrible relationship than have a healthy, loving relationship with ourselves. Why? Because being alone is a frightening thing. But learning to love your alone time is really what gives you greater purpose and energy into putting into with someone else. And as you were talking about the experiences of self preservation being a sign of love, that made me look at the film and relationships in a different way altogether

I mean individuals grow and change throughout life in a shorter time span of under 100 years let alone a thousand and we're expecting that those trajectories of growth and change are going to stay similarly aligned that entire time. I don't know to what ends of questions posed. I think too sometimes when we focus on the length of time instead of the relationship itself well, that can cause the relationship to become unhealthy if the priority is staying together. It's kind of like concepts of loyalty

It's almost like we were meant to be with each other. We see this a lot in our daily lives now. Spotify playlist. If you have a spotify playlist that matches with someone, there's potential for a romantic relationship. Some people take it that seriously. We can go down the list MBTI, astrology, et cetera. And there is this natural need to couple to survive. But as you stated, you can do these things simply with a friend

@FryedOreo

Ha ha. Literally and figuratively. And so some of these things were lost on me of profiles talking about and trying to match based on some of these more superficial things or what have you, or at least that's my perspective. And so it makes sense that some of that was lost on me when I was watching the movie. Anyway. Interesting. Thank you for your swell

So it's not surprising to me now that there are a lot more casual daters out there in various other forms of relationships than simply just man and a woman or even a man and a man and a woman and a woman. It's so much more nuanced than that. And I remember talking about this on the dating app with someone and they thought I was trying to be like a w****. I was trying to get a bordello of people not to have sex

And when I look at how society is now and there's these ideas that people want to lock in about what it is to be fill in the blank, plus how that fits with what it is to be, whatever that we filled in there in relation to another human. And so then you start to operate according to these ideas that society has, but not necessarily really about the entirety of being human, the entirety of what relationships are really about, like connection or growing side by side

Well, it looks like you gave me something to to check out. I'm gonna have to check out that movie. The premise sounds pretty entertaining, man. That would be crazy. That much. 48 48. 48 hours to find a girlfriend, to find a companion. D***. I mean, you know my struggles, bro, but d***

You might have to pretend to do a thing that someone else does. So you all have a common link, because that, although artificial, is a sign of true romance in this universe. But what's great about films like these is that they speak a lot to what is going on in our present day in the dating world
