What is your must have spice/seasoning? The one that your spice cabinet is always filled with...

And I have to say that I've grown to basically be pretty obsessed with the spice, so much so that I probably use it in ways that I really shouldn't. But it's just such a great product and such a great plant that is really versatile when you become comfortable with using it. And I wanted to ask the swell community here, what is that one spice that you feel similarly about that you need to have when you're cooking? Is it Rosemary? Is it basil?

https://s.swell.life/SSWNxYJATd0YTe2 Maldon Salt!!

So that's my answer I will link to I guess, just a low hanging Amazon link so people could get it. Because if you don't have it, you're missing out on tasting some beautiful food because that's what salt does. Salt doesn't have a flavor. It brings out flavor. That's my thought for the day

Cumin!

Well, I'm gonna have to go with cumin. It's essential around here for the Mexican flavored dishes we make. Also the Middle Eastern ones we occasionally dip into and the Indian ones. It's so versatile. And I have to say, as a sometimes often vegetarian, I early on learn to live off of beans and rice, but black beans out of the can or even off the stove. Not so good, but add cumin

Kim, I have to say that cumin is probably the second ingredient that is a must have in my spice cabinet. I think I have an unhealthy obsession with it. If that's possible, I use far too much of it and I know that I do. I am just incredibly Liberty with cumin when I'm cooking, but it is just so dynamic. You can use it in so many different things. So I second your answer

Turmeric

Wow. I love this thread. I think it's fantastic. And the spice that I cannot live without is turmeric. Turmeric is fantastic. It turns the simplest potato dish to a gourmet dish over just a few sprinkles. It's a must have in Thai cooking, in Indian cooking, just about anything. You want to add a little bit of yellow magic. That's what I think

And I replaced my regular salt with soy sauce or garlic salt, and I think it makes everything taste so good. And I'm Latina in my background. So I don't know if it's uncommon for other Latinos to have soy sauce and everything, but that's what I use. That's what my mom used, and that's what I use

Black Pepper Anyone?

Also, while we're at it, what about good old black pepper? Anyone any take us out there. Isn't that one of the most versatile spices that adds a cake without really, you know, veering too far away from the original flavor of the dish. I mean, crack a little pepper in your tomato soup to give it new character or some boring vegetables turn exciting with some black pepper or literally anything salads entrees black pepper. I think that's another must have spice on our shelves
