Over many billions of years, it will support life against its own gravity by thermal pressure caused by nuclear processes which convert hydrogen into helium. But however, Subramanium Chandrasheikar showed in 1930 that maximum mass of a white duff star is about 1.4 times that of the sun. What would be the fate of those countless stars which a greater mass than maximum mass of a white duove or neutron star once they had exhausted nuclear fuel. This problem was investigated by Robert Ofenhemia of later atom bomb fame
