The 65 day deadlock continues.

And after several rounds of talks, the government has decided to pause the farm bills for one, five years or a year and a half. The farmers, however, believed that this was indeed an attempt to merely end the protest and not fulfill prior commitments

Law 1- Farmers Produce Trade and Commerce Act

The primary purpose of these protests is for the government to revoke three laws which the farmers believe were arbitrarily passed. The first law was the Farmers Produce Trade and Commerce Act. The farmers believe that this will result in them being exploited by big corporations and not be given state support. The act also allows for interstate trade between numerous States and India, but the farmers believe that this will result in their current local markets disintegrating after a certain period of time

Law 2- Essential Commodities Act

The second act is known as the Essential Commodities Act, which allows the central government to regulate the supply of certain food items only under extraordinary circumstances such as war and farmers. Limits may be imposed on agricultural produce only if there is a steep price rise. In this case, the steep price rise or the Clause, which indicates that the market forces may determine the prices of commodities can be open to interpretations, and that's what the farmers believe will hinder revenue, especially from sales during difficult periods

Law 3- farmers agreement ordinance

The third of these is the Farmers Agreement Ordinance, which creates a framework for contract farming through an agreement between a farmer and a buyer prior to the production or raring of any farm produce. This means that there will be a free, fixed agreement between a private buyer and a farmer. It provides for a three level dispute settlement mechanism, which is yet to come into existence
