Bermuda hurricanes

But we do have a lot of roof damage what I've just explained, and mostly because of a concrete block. And people take caution and to make sure that everything is safe. Jim Cantori From the Weather Channel I've had an opportunity to speak to him several times over the years when he's come down to cover the Hurricane here. And he says, like most comedians, they know what to do and they take the proper precautions. They're not running around or ignoring it

How the island prepares for hurricanes and how we are preparing for Cat 2 Hurricane Paulette

How do people in Bermuda look at climate change?

Is that just a temporary kind of five year period has gone up, or is that like an increasing trend that could directly be attributed to climate change? A lot of these trends are often misinterpreted. So that's why I want to understand people on the ground there. How do they look, cat Cat, Hurricane Paulette, do they kind of correlate that with climate change? Thank you

And at any rate, obviously, I wanted to wish you and everybody in Bermuda well, I'm a wimp when it comes to weather. So Hurricanes are not something that I would probably be able to deal very well with

How we prepare

And my brother had to deal with one of the fires, probably about ten years ago, where the fire actually burned down to his house from the San Bernardino Mountains and around. His neighbor in the back of the house got burned down and several houses down on either side of his house was spared, but it was like a barren wasteland. His house was like the only house around

@Caligooner

It's not like some other places where they don't believe in the science, because every single person who's a resident here who's gone through one knows what the procedure is, and it's sort of like clockwork as to prepare for unlike earthquakes in California, you don't have any knowledge that it's coming. So our weather report that we get is every 6 hours on Bermuda. Hurricanes. Until then, approaches within 48 hours

@RTMilne

I think almost worse for us was earlier this year during the pandemic, and we had a shelter in place order, and there was more fear, I think, to that it was like waiting for a Hurricane to come with the pandemic, but not knowing you're stuck in your house and you couldn't go anywhere and you didn't know when it was going to hit

So just as a brief update at 830. And I'll have another update around noon my time. The weather service here in Bermuda is predicting now that the closest point of approach approach to Bermuda within 72 hours will be at 06:00 a.m. On Monday. So as opposed to I saw yesterday and moved from noon to 02:00 p.m.. And now it's 06:00 a.m. Monday as the latest tracking forecast is in place. And it means the storm is moving faster, which is actually kind of a good thing

Saturday

I'm back just to give you an update as to where Bermuda is with regard to Cat Hurricane Paulette, closest point of approach at this point is 08:00 a.m.. On Monday with a direct hit. They're expecting winds in excess of 85 knots and the Islands begun preparation. A lot of people were taking excess things down to the dump to get rid of it. So it's not on people's properties. Schools will be closed on Monday. Right now it's a tropical storm

Hey, Don, thanks for posting. And if you do get a chance, would love to hear an update and hope you're remaining safe here. Seeing some pictures from satellite and showing the eye was directly you over Bermuda in a fascinating photo where the Hurricane was just so much bigger than the actual island. Really just kind of amazing to see

Hurricanes. Force winds are supposed to be lasting for another hour and a half. And from where I am in my place, though, I haven't seen any damage, but once people get out, there will probably be some roof damage because of the nature of the storm and the way it sort of made a right turn kind of over Bermuda. So we're going to have a bit of a long one here

Bermuda is open and back to normal.

And a lot of that, again, has to deal with the fact that we build our buildings out of concrete block and we take Hurricanes seriously. And it's a great thing. No loss of life, no major injuries. We have two babies born, two baby boys born on the day of the Hurricane while it was over us. And some of you may have seen the satellite photo of Bermuda actually sitting in the eye of the Hurricane, the whole island in the center of the eye of Pollock

Thank you for the updates!

Hey, Don, thanks for keeping us updated. I did hear the wind and the rain as you posted during the Hurricane, and it was just really something to hear. You could kind of feel the intensity there, just listening to the sound. So thank you for posting that. But I'm mostly glad that everything is okay. And it's just really amazing how much you can really prepare for that Hurricane now

3D printed houses.

And if that's part of your sort of conversation with people and what your thoughts are about that. So anyway, just food for thought. I would love to hear your ideas, because 3D printing houses is kind of a big deal right now. People are talking a lot about it, especially in times when we're trying to find more housing for people and alternative housing and going on in different land use issues that are coming up. Water rights issues. So much conversation

Hurricane Teddy is coming on Monday.

Alright. So Burrito is all prepared or preparing Bermuda Hurricanes Teddy tomorrow it's not going to be a direct hit like I can't even remember now. Cat, cat, cat, cat. Hurricane Paulette Monday and we're going to get Teddy tomorrow morning almost roughly about the same time. And a lot of people who boarded up their big windows or sliding glass doors left them up for the week. I brought some things inside
