What Do You Want From the Marvel Movies?

article image placeholderUploaded by @Dominique
I only started to watch the movies when Civil War came out a couple of years ago and I really don't know if I am as angry or as upset with the new movies as some people are. I go into Marvel movies just looking for entertainment, for a fun movie. I don't expect there to be anything as interesting as a character study or anything that was strayed from their norm. I just go into accepting a fun action superhero movie and I understand why people are upset, though

Stop diluting their characters

But they're not really spending the time to go into detail with each movie. So, for instance, I think a while back in the early 2000s, they had Fantastic Four. They did two movies with it, and it just kind of shelf it. And now I see that they're trying to reboot it, even though they already rebooted it again before they have the Black Panther franchise, which they did two movies on. They're working on a third

Less formulaic please

Hey, Dominique, interesting question, and I would love to answer it because I have been a little upset with Marvel for the last several years. Unlike you, I grew up with Marvel. My older brother has a half sleeve of Spiderman and he had it when I was a toddler, and from that moment on, I was like, Marvel is the coolest thing ever. I want to surround myself with it at all times. And that's sort of what I tried to do

I don’t expect a roller coaster to be anything other than a thrill ride

So I get that I don't really have a problem with it. I understand Marvel is a big company that's making money. So when I am looking for more depth, nuance and different types of storytelling, that isn't necessarily a roller coaster. I look to the episodic versions of Marvel stories, so I was very impressed with Captain America and The Winter Soldier on Disney Plus

Dc, on the other hand, has had to shake things up a bit to have relevant voices, and I find it very interesting how Joker eclipsed a lot of what Marvel was doing, and they were basically just going to have it as a one off story. I think DC thrives better in one off stories than Marvel does. I think Marvel struggles with trying to have a story where it is not connected to their MCU. Or would they even think that would be necessary?
