Why no testing for public office?

Geography, important things that you have to know and you have to have not just understand like a basic grasp of, but thoroughly understand to lead an entire country that's going to have to be dealing with those issues on a day to day basis. I would love to hear other people's thoughts on this, and I'm surprised when I do a Google search for this that I'm not seeing a whole lot coming up already

Why is there no test to determine an individual’s understanding of history before qualifying for public office? #nobrainer #change #juneteenth

Yes I agree and ...

I want my President to be so wise and up there in the ranks of brilliance and just strategic and almost like, I don't know. I want a guy that's Super Super smart, a girl, that's Super Super smart woman girl. You know what I mean? So my point is we're living in a world that doesn't really respect science too much and doesn't respect a lot of academic rigor too much. And I think we don't have

Deborah, you just nailed it for me. I think when you say, hey, I want somebody smart. I don't know exactly how you measure that and how you measure smartness, but I know it when I see it. And I know when somebody's absolutely smarter than me. And that's who I want to work for, and that's who I want, actually leading the company

Will it be totally inclusive.. COO is not necessarily the best CEO

In my opinion, I will not go into which ones. That's another story for another day, but it's just a point to be noted when it comes to leadership office

But at least people would know that you don't know what you're talking about when it comes to history. You don't know the context of where we are in the world and you don't know about foreign affairs. And you'd it's data that we can use to help make better decisions. That's my point

You know, I take that back when you're running for President or a federal judge or some other like governor, things like that. If you fail the test, you don't get to run. You can go back and study more and then try again just like every everybody else does when they fail. But no, you can't run unless you pass the test

Seven US citizenship requires a test... hmm

Actually, in retrospect, now that I think about it a little bit more, I think we do require some sort of test. And where I'm coming from is when I became a naturalized US citizen, I was required to take an oral test. I was required to understand how our country functions and understand the political structure of our country and where our country came from and how it was all our values
@SeekingPlumb

If I'm dreaming big...

And then are we looking at EQ or IQ and even things like problem solving from identifying parameters, prioritizing piecing them back together in an efficient and the best way and how to be defined best to move forward if I take a few steps back and stop dreaming that big instead of rebuilding an entire institution, just the idea of somehow coming together to decide on some sort of testing for different levels of, in this case, government and implementing that would be like a huge, monumental step in the right direction

Notameritocracy

At one point, people reminded me it's not a meritocracy, so it's not what you know or even what you've done or what you could do. It's whether people choose to vote for you or the person you're running against. And we all have a responsibility to walk into the voting booth as informed as we can be about the people and what their qualifications are. But politics makes that pretty difficult to do, as we've certainly seen

I think in terms of the history of things, I kind of feel like it's in part or a large part that the founders of the nation didn't really anticipate the Internet or TVs and things like that they felt like information was limited to the areas that it was in outside of newsprint. And they assumed that the people that were getting that information in general were either the more well educated people. And they really didn't think of office as something for just the general public
