The Jerome Stakes - Grade 3

article image placeholderJerome Stakes
This used to be one of the most prestigious races in America. It has been downgraded to a grade three race. I think that's where it will stay. It's a purse of 150,000. It is in cold weather, so it generally does not draw a lot of horses big name horses anyways, into stakes anymore. It used to be run in September. Now it's run in January in New York, where a lot of trainers have already brought their horses south for the winter

The second oldest stakes race in the country named for Winston Churchill's grandfather Leonard Jerome.

Results. Capo Kane wins and will move on.

You really don't want to see that you really want them focused on driving down the Lane. It could just be green, something might have spooked them, or it could be tired, and horses will tend to kind of wander out in the middle of the track as they get more tired. And I couldn't tell whether he was getting tired or just was running green, but definitely something to be aware of for next race. And yesterday there was a speed bias to the track
