42 years. Today he’s retiring. Do you know people who’ve worked in one place for a long time?

Wait a minute. Mr. Postman. Mr. Postman, after 42 years, he is retiring. I think his name is Jonathan. And that's horrible that I'm even saying I think he has been on this block for 17 years and in the in this city for 42 years, serving as a postman. Rain, sleet, snow. How many of us know people have worked for anything that long? My father 43 years for the Department of Defense. So I get it. But what a rare thing

Working hard to eventually hardly work

Hi Deborah. My father worked for one company for 60 years. It was a company that his father set up. So he eventually became the owner. But from 1915 to 1975 he worked continuously for one company. And that company was a bookshop. My grandfather founded it in 1902. My father worked there from till 1975

Wow. I have that bookshop in my head now, in my mind's eye, it's probably completely wrong, but I'm imagining your father and your grandfather. I dress them up in year appropriate clothing and I see them in that bookshop. Wow. That's amazing. Thank you

And ever to make it more interesting, just think about what it must have been like. They didn't get on with each other. Nope. They they were not bosom bodies. So there was a strange relationship. My grandfather died in the 1930s. That was when my father took over full ownership of the bookshop. It's now owned by my brother. And there are, I think, five bookshops in the group. And you could even order a book online from them. They have a website
