Can We Solve Real World Problems through the Metaverse? Welcome Bobby Carlton!

article image placeholderBobby Carlton
Here, I put this question to Bobby Carlton, and I asked Bobby, So what are the problems that you're trying to solve? And he said he's very excited about exploring how robotics and XR really helps the real world, how it helps with home care, specifically specifically. Also, he's looking at business culture. So today we're going to have a pretty expansive conversation about the Metaverse, about AR and VR and how it shapes and reshapes the world that we're living in right now

How I started and where its going

So how could VR be used as a mechanism to help people learn new tasks, be on Dbpardes recruited. And again, we did it through storytelling. And so is that right? That time as well? I joined VR Scout as a writer. And of course, really from 2016 to 2018, I was really focused on virtual reality and education

VR + increase in Empathy

And I just got out of a conversation about empathy. So I guess I'm in that space right now. Can you talk about how people are learning about each other more deeply because of virtual reality

Hi, Deborah. Yeah. So I can talk about some of the projects I'm working on. I can't go into detail because of an NDA that I'm under. What I can tell you is that the these projects are for two of the more popular social media apps out there. But what these companies are doing and what they're saying is that they realize that people are going to their apps to communicate, to talk to people

Hey Bobby, I'm actually an undergrad at SUNY Albany right now. I'm in my third year. I'm majoring in history and minoring in Spanish. But I heard you mention that you attended You Albany. And I was like, oh man, I got a hop on. But VR is really interesting to me because I literally know nothing about it, to be honest, other than the Oculus, the gaming VR. That's really the only knowledge of VR that I know about

@bcarlton What’s the VR killer app for social media?

Hi, Bobby. Welcome to Suwell. Thank you for being here. This is such a fascinating topic. And Deborah, thanks for bringing Poppy on board. Bobby, my question for you comes from the social media perspective. How are the social platform, the existing platform looking?

And I think we'll even lean away from the idea of VR and we'll start adopting this idea of just calling it XR technology. Right. An XR technology being that pathway into the Metaverse and being able to create your digital twin in that Metaverse experience and again, it doesn't have to be a completely robust, immersive experience. And I think in the beginning of the technology, that's how we sort of really approached it

And of course, we look at Roblox. Right. Because virtual reality isn't just a fully immersive headset experience. Right. It can be a 2D experience. So Minecraft, Roblox, Fortnite, these are all immersive worlds that you can go into and talk with other people and collaborate with people and have fun in a virtual environment. That's a 360 environment. It's not immersive through a headset, but it's through your desktop computer and it's a Web XR type of experience
