UBER DRIVER / PHILOSOPHER: How does the vastness of the galaxy make you feel?

article image placeholderUploaded by @DBPardes
I was in a long Uber drive two days ago, and the driver had his Vaccination card actually on the back seat taped. And so I knew his age was about ten years older than me, Vietnamese, and we had a quiet ride until the very end. He struck up a conversation with me, and he said he recently saw a YouTube video, and it made him simultaneously depressed and exhilarated and happy. And he said it was the weirdest thing. I said, what was the video?

Standing in awe and wonder. Feeling Inspired or overwhelmed or both?

Chilling and inspiring @DBPardes

It's also beautiful to just be a part of something just to see what you're actually a part of, right. Versus all the kind of things we get caught up with in the world which are very real. Because this is the Earth, right? This is our galaxy and our world, more or less. And the things that are happening right on here that we are very much aware of

And for this moment in time to be a part of something from my perspective, in this even small framing of my place on the planet, it's still pretty amazing, no matter how brief my time may be here. It's like the art that you see that is ephemeral, the drawings in the sand, the sand castles, so many different things, and yet there can be beauty in the finiteness of it all

Stars? Dust? What are we made of? Awe and wonder as a type of sabbath? Lots of thoughts running through my head.

Going back to my faith piece, because I think at some point, scientifically, I heard were made of dirt, but now I'm just not sure. I'm going to do some digging because I want to know what I'm made up of. And maybe if we knew more of what we were made of, then we might know. Maybe the question of the universe won't seem so scary, but I definitely agree with the Uber driver. Pardon me?

But I'm also relieved that I am so small and I'm relieved that all the pressure I put on myself, the big scheme of things is really not all that important because we're part of something much bigger and I just think it's great. So thank you for sharing. This story was really cool story

Judy, it's so interesting you said that about the Sabbath. I was going to actually mention that in my original post, but then I didn't, so I wanted to keep it short

It's just the fact that there are so many people out there in the world who truly have such great ideas. Whether they've been implemented, whether they will actually pan out, I don't know. But they have such great ideas of how to bring about change. And yet when we look at our leaders, we seem to just find more and more of the same. They seem to just be like a tribe of people who think the same and speak the same thing over and over again
