RAY SUAREZ’s NEW PODCAST: The things I thought about when my body was trying to kill me

article image placeholderThe Things I Thought About When My Body Was… | Evergreen Podcasts
He was always so disarming and engaging and just so committed to doing that beautiful work that great journalists do, really telling us what was going on and really meeting the great people and having great interviews. And I always wondered what happened after he left. And if you go to his Wikipedia page, you can see a lot about what he's been doing. It's incredible. He's such a scholar and such a fan of just making sure we have access to stories that really shape our world

Well, what an incredibly brave thing for race warriors to do. I lost both my parents to cancer. And when you get the diagnosis, just feel like they don't really let you in on how serious things are going to get or what is going to happen. The doctors kind of just jump into treatment and all kinds of side effects. And without the conversation about what's really going to happen and what someone's chances are, I feel like everyone just kind of ignores that

This is so interesting. Cancer is something I think about so often because it is terrifying and we've come a long way in treatment for it. Like so much further than we were. From what I understand. We've come a long way, but obviously not far enough. It's still a major scary killer. This podcast sounds fascinating. I worry about listening to it. I worry that it will frighten me. I have so much anxiety in general. I am so scared of cancer

And so I would really love to listen to this podcast just to hear about what it's like for someone going through that and to just really share that experience and not be hopefully it will help people feel less alone as well. And the experience, just hearing someone talk so openly about it

It's such a basic thing that some of us probably experience every single day. Some of us, like me, who live in a virtual desert. Right. So cancer is one of those things that if you have seen it happen to people around you, it has a way of taking over your narrative. It has a way of taking over your mind. And it took me a while

There has to be the silver lining, you say, which is like the legacy of story and just knowing each other at that level is a beautiful thing. But all the voices here really remind me of the importance of story and connecting to that. It's also striking that all women so far connecting. And Ray Suarez is a guy and he's going to tell us his world and it's so important for men to be open and vulnerable, especially when it comes to this kind of stuff

And I read a lot of those medical articles and journals that focuses on immunotherapy as a way to fight cancer. Basically get your immune system to fight cancer, similar to Covet, right? You have to get your immune system to fight the disease effectively. And there are a lot and a lot of great findings in the last couple of years in utilizing your immune system to fight cancer effectively, including pancreatic cancer and so on. So what this clinic has focused on is basically much of the same
