Virtual Cashiers and Security Guards: The future seems weird

article image placeholderUploaded by @daily
But to us, to the consumers, to the inhabitants of the building, what is the advantage of having somebody remote, being your cashier, being your night watchman? That is the question that I really don't have an answer to. And wondering if the deep thinkers of swell have more of an idea of what good this can bring to consumers

Is this a natural use of technology or simply a cost cutting measure?

You have to do into places like in bathrooms and make sure no one's hanging out in there. You have to make sure that you're doing checks and like, you know, just things that you normally wouldn't put a camera in because of privacy issues. Like, you don't put cameras in bathrooms for a reason. So then how would you be able to actually see if anything is going on there? And then even in terms of cashiers, it's just dumb

And so whereas some of the younger generation, who's practically done everything, virtually, they may not mind it as much, but I do believe that our older generation, our silent generation and baby boomers, who are still very much consumers in this world and frequent retail places such as stores, banks, they would benefit from having that in person interaction. It's just not the same doing it virtually. We discovered that during the pandemic when we were having all these virtual meetings

I mean, the target that I go to once a week in the mornings, they close off the self checkout lines and when. So I go to the line with the cashier. Normally there is this woman there I see. And we always speak to each other. We check in, we say, hi, how you doing? How are things going? How's the weather? And that sort of lifts my day a little bit. And in the quest to relentlessly cut cost, we're losing

Science Fiction warned us. We arent listening

That can't be good for the environment we have more of a dependency on. It'll come to me, I don't have to go to it. So that's changing how we deal with our patients and our driving habits. We also have brick and mortar stores that are extremely large, that are not even trying to logically compete with the online sector. They're trying to force people to go online to buy it, which ultimately takes away the jobs in the store

The only reason that these corporations have power over us is because our government isn't doing what it's supposed to, like, taxing them appropriately. Like, they should be getting taxed at a rate of, like, 39 to probably 50% of whatever the sales that they make here should be going back, right back into the government, right back to the people. So I don't know

You might actually have the best security guard because look, you already got people who make, you know, those quote unquote like mouse jigglers for people who are remote workers who just want to look like you're on a computer or not. This time, though, you can't have that. You got a real person staring at you who the moment you actually appear to be stealing, he might have some of the advanced tech and most advanced technology stop you
