Should Kevin McCarthy entertain a deal with Democrats for House Speaker?

However, being in the state of California, I would think that it might actually help him. But I don't know that district very well. Perhaps somebody can weigh in that knows that district and the voting patterns a little bit better than myself. The way things are going, I think he has that decision to make either promote a lot of these Freedom Caucus candidates and give in to their demands or strike a deal with the Democrats or find yourself on the outside looking in

Like, he's in a very challenging position. A lot of the Republicans are, because they have a base that can primary them out of their elections, but their base wants them to run on and be a certain type of politician that does not appeal in general elections. So what we're going to see is an increasingly desperate Republican Party that is going to keep on finding ways to suppress voting and seize power without having to appeal to the general electorate

He will want to, because right now, his caucus have him buy the shorthairs for real. They can make his life very, very difficult. You gotta be careful when you want that absolute power, that control. And then you have people that can and just derail your whole agenda. He knows it. He can see it. But you know what? When you chase after it, you do everything that you possibly can to get it. When you do get it, was it worth it?

It's like you think about the longest lasting laws that we've had in the nation, and they're always bipartisan. It used to be a give and take, and that's lost now. I think we've had a few bills in the past couple of years here that have been somewhat bipartisan, but it's just been so long since I've seen real bipartisan structure in Washington, DC. That I just kind of assume it's just not going to be there
