Interview with Maddie- Hockey!

article image placeholderUploaded by @carissa
Hi, everyone. So today I'm here with my roommate Mattie, who's on the UVM women's club hockey team. So I just wanted to talk to her about her experience with hockey and just what got her interested in it. So my first question is, how did you get interested in playing hockey at a young age? Because I never really knew that girls could play hockey when I was little, and I didn't know any friends who played

An interview with my roommate Maddie about her experience on the women’s club hockey team.

So I feel like I was just kind of naturally following in the footsteps of what everyone else in my family. But I fell in love with it too. At an early age, I knew I wanted to pursue it for a long time

I think that's awesome. I think it's really cool how it was kind of a thing that was passed throughout your family and a little bonding experience for you guys. So I know you're a goalie on the hockey team, and I was wondering if you've always been a goalie or if you started out out with some other positions or like when you first learned to skate, if you were just skating by itself or you just learned to skate with hockey

So goalie was actually the last thing that I tried when it came to hockey. I started figure skating when I was really little, and that definitely gave me a really good foundation of, like, how I learned to skate. And then I started playing forward right away. A. After a little bit during the season, I moved to defense. And then the next season, I decided to try goalie just with all the stuff that we already had in our garage from my dad and my brother playing

That's really interesting how goalie was the last thing you tried, because I've always only known you as a goalie. So it's just interesting that you started off in other places also. I think it's just really interesting hearing about your experience because hockey is one of the sports never tried as a kid. So it's just something I know nothing about. So thank you for talking with me about your experience

And growing up, if they wanted to play in any kind of pickup game whatsoever of their older siblings, they made them play goalie, and they had to play goalie if they were going to play at all. And so they were almost kind of thrust into that position. And I was wondering if that was the case at all where you had to play goalie if you were going to play in your brother's games. It doesn't sound like that was the case
