My Top Five Rock Bands

article image placeholderUploaded by @Byrdseyeview
They're not hard rock, quite hard rock, but they're not folk. They can do a little folk, they can do a little bit of stuff like that. But their genre is very different from the other ones on this list. It's hard to really put a finger on what type of rock they are. I think my dad said they were kind of a cosmic rock or something like that. I'm not sure. But I love yes, I love John Anderson's voice

And then moving into the think, things kick up a notch on certain fronts. You got bands like Judas Priest and Iron Maiden and Van Halen. Even though their first album was in the 70s they really started coming into their own right in the early eighty s. I mean, there's just so many great acts, but yeah, that's probably my answer. I could talk about rock and roll forever

It's funny enough, in the 90s is when I was really listening to the classic rock stuff and a little bit of R and B and stuff like that during the 90s because R and B was all around us. And hip hop, tupac, biggie wutang, all of that. I was listening to a mixture of all those things

It. Yeah, I actually am a big fan of hip hop as well. The new stuff, like, you have the mumble rap and stuff like that. And I kind of like it, but almost the way that I like things ironically, it's like fun to have on, maybe at a party, but beyond that, I'm not really listening to it in my spare time, let's put it that way. My favorite, like, rap group of all time is Gangstar

And they're just big geeks that just happen to do hardcore rap and everything in hip hop. But yeah, I really like having a discussion with you because I don't have too many people I could talk to about it. Not too many people. Now that I'm older, I got more people and there's usually not people within my ethnicity, unfortunately

@Byrdseyeview Did you have this phase?

Neil Pert is thought of as one of the best drummers, and Getty Lee was fantastic on the bass. Now, I didn't think that they were as great as the best power trio in my mind, and that's Cream. But Rush definitely has their place in history here. Everyone seemingly had a phase, but that's where the line kind of was drawn. Did you have a Rush phase?

I think in this case, majority makes them my favorite band with Soundgarden, especially the other ones I'm well versed in. But Soundgarden is probably the only one. I'm not 100% sure. I've listened to everything, but I get what you mean. It's probably better before you could say somebody's your favorite band to listen to everything in order to put it on the category. But to each his own. Everybody has a different way of categorizing it. So thanks for replying

Ahead. Hey, Phil, thank you so much for your response. I'm glad that people are checking this swell out. I did not have a Rush phase. The only song I probably would say I'm very familiar with is XYZ and there was another one, I'm so sorry. And I know people are going to probably slap me for this as a class of rock, quote unquote fan, but I never just really got into Rush

There's just so many bands of that era that I think are severely underrated that you can explore that I think you'll enjoy more than Lauren into Rush. But thanks for answering the question. I think it explains I have a clear notion in my mind of exactly who goes through a Rush phase now

The original singer, I thought it was two different singers because some songs he would have the classic grunge voice, but then other songs he have, like a soft sounding voice. Other songs he would sound completely different. And I think that was really what drew me in, is his voice. The drumming, the guitar and bass were kind of like in the background, but I think it was more his voice in the drums that drew me into STP. So STP is definitely part of my top ten

Now that I'm thinking about it, I want to add Tom Sawyer to my itunes library because I really like that song. But, yeah, thanks so much for the recommendations. I'll definitely check those out on Spotify

But again, like Phil was saying, getty's voice is not for everybody. But also I think one thing about Rush that doesn't really sit well with a lot of people is that they are that next sort of evolution of what I would have considered the progressive rock genre. You have bands like King Crimson and Pink Floyd and Jethro Toll kind of like leading the Way and then you have Rush, right? And on 20 112, I mean, there's a song that is like 20 minutes long

Not saying that they're better, but they're definitely up there on an alternative grunge scene. Of course. I think I might have mentioned in my list. Audio Slave was another super group, the People from Rage Against Machine with Chris Cornell from Soundgarden. That was another super group that he was part of and another super group to bore the Dog, which had Chris Cornell and I think the drummer from Soundgarden and the lead singer of Pearl Jam

But he was a drummer for yes I Believe, and I think John Bonham might have had guessed drummed, if that's the term for them. I can't remember. I do remember hearing I was hearing about him guest starring on certain songs for certain groups. But I think it was King Kristen. I'm not 100% sure. But yeah, that's another group I got to really get into is King Crimson. I got to listen to them

@Taylor 2112 Classic Albums

And they did Rush moving pictures. But when they did Rush Moving Pictures they really focused on 20 112 a lot. And that was it was their fourth album and after their third album, which was a massive flop, heavy on the Sci-fi, the record executives were considering dropping Rush and went to them and said we'll give you another go at it. None of this Sci-fi Boat BS. We want hits, we want commercial hits
