Is it time to kill patents? Apple loses $309mn to patent troll!

article image placeholderApple ordered to pay $308.5 million after jury finds it infringed on digital rights management patent
And I have seen many of these filing patents for the sake of filing a patent and then suing a large company a couple of decades later. I think it's time we let go of this idea of patents. It's not serving the purpose that it was meant to serve. It is not keeping true competitors out. In fact, it is creating international competitors. And domestically it is shutting down people because of patent roles

Max, thank you so much for that response. And I completely agree with you. A trade secret must be kept a secret. And you know, I don't think the patent is the way to go about it so perfectly agree on that on music. I don't understand the nuances of music, so I don't know if I can speak for it. Maybe I will try and invite a few people who are more film and music buff than I am

Max, I totally agree with what you said about music. I have seen more and more that bands are sort of taking a step back, either they're if they're in a position where they're stepping away from labels and they're doing things independently in many cases, that's obviously resulting in more money for them. It's going straight to their pockets

I dissent!

And for example, the equivalent of that in the literary world is when you have short stories published by a magazine and maybe you're not being paid, but you go with that publication because you know, it's more likely that an agent is going to see you or you're not being paid. But that magazine has a big audience. I see that as like the literary equivalent to what musicians are doing on SoundCloud
