Today one of my heroes, and I think it's fair to say one of America's heroes, Bell Books has passed on due to renal failure at the age of 69. Bell Books is is an incredible writer and a feminist thinker that completely blew my world apart when I first read her book All About Love in 2010, shortly after I graduated from Undergrad and moved to San Francisco

It's funny how that works, and you get into people's work and you really understand what it is they're trying to convey about social systems, especially patriarchal systems, which can be executed in a lot of different forms. I think we primarily understand men building power. We often don't understand that the patriarchal paradigm can also be wielded by any kind of adult against a child, regardless of sex or gender
And I'm saddened by the fact that people will not get to experience that in the flesh. I mean, 69 years old is too young. But her words, the work that she has done is permanent. It is immortal, I think. And I have such a tremendous amount of respect for her as a human being, as a writer, as a feminist, as an activist, whatever you want to say, Bell Books is one of my favorite people
