What book made you love to read? πŸ“–

article image placeholderUploaded by @bowie
I'm a big reader now. But it wasn't until my freshman year of high school that I can say I really fell in love with reading and the book that made me fall in love with it. It was The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros. I had never read a story like that. The novel is told in vignettes, and the prose is really poetic because I later learned that Sandra Cisneros is also a poet. And it also was about a working class girl growing up

And so I tend to gravitate towards books of that sort, like spirituality books, kind of like self help books. I just find it to be kind of like my own little therapy, like readings and I don't know, I love reading books that can change my perspective on certain things and see different things that I've never thought about before. So yeah, The Power of now is a great book, and I'm trying to find more books that are similar to that as of right now

And it's something I've always prioritized and made sure I had time to do because it is like therapy for me. It's like one of my favorite things to do. So kind of a funny book that got me into reading, but that is what it was

And I know for me, having struggled with and dealt with anxiety since I was a kid, that definitely has influenced my reading life and that it's made me have periods where I found it a lot more difficult to read and concentrate on reading because of anxiety and other periods where it's really been a balm and a way to help me be present and enjoy the moment and not worry as much about the past and the future

Oh my goodness. It made me so happy to hear about the first book that you loved and how that was like the beginning of your lifelong journey with reading. Being something that you always prioritize. I think that is just the cutest and having to nieces. It's been so fun getting books for them and I'm so curious to see which ones really stick with them as books they love, especially from childhood

It's very calming to listen to just hearing someone's voice and I retain a lot more information that way. So I'm definitely going to try out more of books I enjoy reading, like for fun or on the side in that way. So thank you so much for replying

I recall a specific series that ignited my love of fantasy reading.

I just blew through those books with Abandoned. I just absorbed them. And it was what I would consider urban fantasy. And it was the vampires and good versus evil. And I love that her cast was colorful. All types of people were in her group of warriors. And after that, I just fell in love with fantasy reading. And since then, I've read maybe 1000 books in that genre

The Monster at the End of this Book, by Jon Stone

Not so much about the power of fiction, but about the power of turning pages and making the act of turning pages to see what happens next. The most exciting thing that you could possibly do is just a brilliant way to introduce the concept of reading to children

Well, actually, I started reading books randomly because in my school days I was not able to read properly. Means when my teacher told me to read, I was not able to read. And that's why PR make fun of me, started teasing me and that make me upset. And afterwards started taking interest in. And now also I read books a lot and it helped me a lot. Nowadays

The magic faraway tree

I love this conversation. The book that made me read. And we were read to us children a lot, Dr. Seuss. And, you know, all his tongue to the twisting, Rhyming stuff. The book that really got me as a kid, though, and I've always been an avid reader ever since is The Magic Faraway Tree. And I just loved being transported to another world. It was so fabulous. And I still remember that feeling of imagination being sparked. This has been so fabulous

So thinking back to the furthest points I can recall would probably be the Time Warp Trio. That was one of the earliest books. I remember reading that in The Baronsteen Bears or Bear and Stein. I always forgot to pronounce the Bear's name, but I wanted to mention the time books for you because I just loved how interesting it was. The shenanigans those three friends got into because of this random time traveling book. I think it was. I think it was a book or something like that

The first book that really got my interest is Who Will Die When You Cry? Written by author Robin Sharma. It is a simple short stories. It's not Motivating short stories but it teaches us about a life, about how to present ourselves in front of others. And I basically started reading this book to improve my English because English language in this book is really very simple and also stories are very impressive. So I recommend everyone to read this book if possible. Thank you

I don't know that it was just one book that made me love reading. And if it was, I don't recall what it was. I devoured books my entire life until I had children. Like, I would read entire books in one day. And I'm not talking small books, like big, huge chapter books. I could read. I could finish them off in a day or two. I don't know

I think I have to read The House on Mainstream Street now because I remember in my English class it was like an optional assignment. They're like, you can read this if you want to. You don't have to. I definitely chose not to. I remember because I don't remember reading it, but I really want to try. Try it now because I love things. What book made you love to reading are special for me

Carson McCullers - the Heart is A Lonely Hunter and James Baldwin - Another Country

And I think it was also a time period for me where my maturity not to sound sort of pretentious or whatever, but I think I was of an age where I could really kind of begin to comprehend human suffering. And and these characters, they do struggle and they're also really sort of beautiful and triumphant in their own way and also tragic. Some of them

I would have to credit my love of reading and my habit of reading to my mother. She placed a book in my hands when I was just three years old. She would read to me before I could start reading on my own. So I've been around books for as long as I can remember. I remember just scrolling through these illustrated books and really loving them and trying to make some connections. And then she'd come in and she'd tell me what the story was about

And I started reading because I wanted to get out of that zone because of the house situation. I wanted to elope somewhere. I wanted to put myself away from anything that was happening around me. So it started as a journey where I wanted to detach myself. But through that journey I actually found myself. So I am very happy to talk about reading at a platform like swell because I don't think I've ever had a Hardy conversation about books and how they changed me at any other platform

And somehow I just started reading it as I'm learning to read, of course, in school. So that's what I fell in love reading. The first book, actual book that I remember reading, it was probably a Conan, because I was into comic books. I was into Marvel and DC and all that type of stuff. I drew my own comic books. I did all that. It was probably one of the Conan novels that they used to write real old school

That book, or Cars as an author, has the tendency of making you feel every single emotion so in depth and his writing just simply melts in you. He might be the reason that I wanted to be a writer, but my mother thinks otherwise. She says that it has always been in me. But anyhow, if you haven't read the book, please, I genuinely highly recommend it to everybody

And this book just really helped me as I grew and matured, and I think it will help any young girl. I actually want to read this again as an adult, and I'm going to suggest it to my daughter and others. Thank you. There are other books I love, too. Encyclopedia Brown books. Nancy Drew books. And the characters actually touched me so much that I started thinking that I am one of the patients there in the castle. And I think that was the beginning of my love with everything before that. I read many things as a child, but that was, I think, the beginning of a young adult. I reading somewhat if we can fix

I've always been a reader. I guess, like started off with small fairy tales and then into comics and mainly Archie comics. And then I read a lot of lightening books and then graduated into Nancy pro books. And I kept reading lightly between my studies. And I remember reading a lot of Goosebumps. I was a big fan of Goosebumps. And then I remember one day my sister telling me to read invisible man
