A Little Bit About Me: Library Literacy Queen

article image placeholderUploaded by @BkQue
Hi, I'm Cheryl Hill. I'm a retired educator. I taught children in elementary school, particularly loved teaching children to read. After years of teaching, I became a school librarian. At that point, I continued to teach children to love books. I didn't have the time, the same time that I had in the classroom, to actually teach children to read. But I did teach children to love books in the library, and this led to my writing a children's book

Hi, Cheryl. Thank you so much for all that you've done to bring the love of books to children. I think it's so important. As a bibliophile myself, I have an avid love for books. I don't know if I've ever I really transferred that onto my children, but I buy all the books and I try to read it to them and try to get them interested in different things that, you know, how children are

Always brings joy to my heart to be appreciated for my love of what I do, as well as the appreciation of the the job, the career that I had teaching children all different kinds of children, all different socioeconomic groups of kids, to read, to learn to read as well as to learn to enjoy books. Thank you for appreciating me

One book number two in the process of fine tuning book number three and I believe I just might hit my goals this year. But what gives me pieces that I can take my experiences and curate them in a way where someone else can benefit from that information. My words will live on forever and I am not dependent on my son or other family members or friends to tell my story but it will be in a way that's authentic for them but not for my own authenticity

@BkQue On intergenerational modeling - what are your thoughts?

And what's your advice to bridging the gap between low level reading adults and young people who have a hunger and a need to continue to read and to learn how to read and to enjoy the processes of reading? So looking forward to getting to know you here, and thanks for your time

Or how can we reconcile children or parent to child in developing that passion with the parents to also be companion readers with their children in pursuing passionately the passion of reading? That's an excellent question comment you left, and it's going to take me probably at least three more episodes to respond fully because I understand what you're saying. But during my time as an educated teacher and then librarian, I've experienced several ways to reconcile that passion, that lack of that passion you speak to

Because you see, once upon a time, only the wealthy were encouraged to value loving. Reading books as a pastime pleasure was only the option for the rich. I used to tell my socially economic stomach, disadvantaged students in very poor neighborhoods that they could immediately elevate their status of life in the process of upward mobility by acquiring the habit of the wealthy, by falling in love with reading lots of books. Reading lots of books as a pastime pleasure

@BkQue: Welcome & Wow…

Just the notion that you have continued to do what you did after retirement is something to rejoice about, and you are a rare breed and a diamond in the rough. I had a teacher on myself. Being an avid reader, as you can probably tell from addiction and vocabulary, that's how most people pick up on that

I just feel like I don't really have a lot of time to do it. But I really I really cherish teachers and librarians like you who have done this for students. So thank you

I recommend you, if you don't already belong to Audible, joining Audible and listening to various readings that you think interests your passion, it is a great way to still get in reading, even though you might be busy. You could be driving somewhere, you could be doing something around the house, but still listening. So please get back into your reading. If you love to do it, try audiobooks via Audible. I encourage you to do so. Congratulations for your loving. Keep on reading

It was for the love of showing up every day to be the very best teacher librarian I could be for the boys and girls that I served. And I recognize you also as a community leader in the ministry. Very noble profession. Thank you so much for making your comments and recognizing another dedicated career into visual. Thank you again. Bye
