Yellow Journalism

article image placeholderUploaded by @Binati_Sheth
And instead of upgrading the woman to business class before is available, the pilot denied it. The whole thing created a journalistic approach where there are articles upon articles upon articles. The guy has obviously lost his job because he was identified and the coverage on this has been relentless. Now, they could have covered a lot of things off the top of my head. They could have covered how one customer is always right has somehow turned into customer is right no matter what they are demanding

Journalists are writing stories people want to read instead of writing stories people need to read. #SayItOnSwell #BSwell

How people consumed and got to know what's going on in the world right through major media publications, whether it's newspapers or television stations or whatever the main channels were. So the role of who, what content got put there became was so critical

So this memesification of news, while it has made information accessible for a lot of people and a lot of people are consuming news with interest courtesy of that, it has also had a downside, which is there are some things that you'd want to talk about but then you won't be able to. If you've been noticing, the Guardian recently had a lot of good journalists that quit and most of them are indirectly citing this

And once they lose control, they'll end up doing something absolutely boring. Now, should he be punished for it? Absolutely, yes. Should he be penalized for it? Absolutely yes. But should his life be completely destroyed for it? Perhaps not. Think of it, right? People who have murdered, raped people, killed people, serial killers, their faces are covered with a black mask before being presented to the public. And here this person's face is plastered all over the net

But the question I had was instead of this becoming a rumor or a sensational thing about potentially racism going on with respect to the mine and a bunch of other things that were more inflammatory and sensationalists, I wanted to know, did anyone ever contact the mine and their history of ownership and, like, who owned it? But I couldn't find that information anywhere. Now, again, it could be out there and I just haven't been able to find it

I think then the really interesting question here is kind of what Benathy you were saying about good journalism. I think that really is a true victim in many ways and that trend is much bigger. So I really hope it was a bit disheartening to hear from you, Bennett, that you have in some ways almost like tried to lay down the arm, so to speak, and move with the tide, right? And that really is a sad trend

I think there needs to be regulations for that because what if the person sitting next to him was immunocompromised? Immunocompromised? People are immunocompromised enough as is. And then you pee on them, which is one person eliminating the wastes from their body. It's like you are giving them disease cocktail. Right? So just thinking in the extremes. But there were so many other angles that they could have written about. I'm not even kidding

Most. Most certainly. Just a little anecdote I this one will be short. You know, when I decided to quit, I was rewatching the newsroom for the, I don't know, third or fourth time. I'm a big Arun Sockin fan because he deals in the ideals, right? Whether it's The West Wing or Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip or the Newsroom. It's such an ideal world he creates

Yes, you are preaching to the choir. Because who would go to therapy, like, legitimately who would go to therapy if Jordan Peterson is a therapist? That man is so profoundly unhappy, right? I mean, everything about his demeanor reflects this kind of hatred for the world. And I'm sure he has reasons behind that. We all have reasons for why we feel the way we do about things. But take Gabor Matt, for example. He's also someone who has a lot of content
@SeekingPlumb

@Binati_Sheth

I'm not talking like, diagnoses level, I'm just talking about things that anyone might go to therapy apart from a diagnosis. Right. Whether we're talking his insecurities or past experiences, I don't want to get in the ins and outs of it, but when he speaks, it's extremely revealing. I say that, but that's generally true for all of us. But I love the way that you described him. And Elon speaking to the elephant. That sums it up perfectly

I mean, I'm sure a journalist could have done better in terms of looking at the whole issue in a well rounded fashion and reporting and bringing in other views so that we could actually get some action around this, either intervention from the government or from certain civic bodies or the DGC itself and so on. So it does pain me also to see that the whole culture of marketing, content marketing, has kind of seeped into journalism as well

Fascinating perspective on the Air India bit. I didn't think about it because I was going off the assumption that, oh yeah, private flights, pilots have full authority to do certain things, but Air India is not entirely private, is it? They have to abide by TDCA. So this also could have been something that is covered, which is difference between treatment in completely private flights and semiautonomous, semi private flights

And yes, I did hear about, I heard about this Karobar thing as I think Polki Sharma spoke about this as well as how she's not part of this and because of that also she has lost out on a lot of opportunities to climb the ladder, et cetera. She was talking about this in a no holdsbarred interview, which I watched. Now, I don't think this is just a question of journalists. I think Kerala, for example, as a state is battling this problem of alcoholism
