I would think then, that in different perspectives as an employee, that maybe we could have a little bit more understanding for the person who's in this leadership role, because they have to also then in their shoes acknowledge that these things are going to happen whether they like it or not and that they can do their best to mitigate some of it, but maybe not all of it. Right?

And I was presented with the idea of giving her a chance since it had been eleven years since we had worked together when I had taken on this job. And I said, you know what, people can change s***. I've been through a lot and have evolved. I am not the same person from eleven years ago. So yeah, sure, I'll take this job and it's a hybrid schedule and I won't have direct reports

Zero sum game @SeekingPlumb

Therefore the term nasty boss kicks into top gear because there is no other conversation that the manager, supervisor or boss needs to have at the end of a Friday or on a Monday morning forecast call hey, what happened to last week's results? If you cannot deliver the outcomes, I don't care what inputs you give and so this debate will rage on. I don't think there is this counterargument that it's not one in lieu of the other

You know, one of the things that I often wonder about is if there is anything like or that fits the definition of a perfect job which essentially pays you decent money or a lot of money. And there is no other problem, be it by people or by processes. In fact, if you know one, let me know. Happy? Enjoyed one. As it turns out, there isn't one

And this is where I think a lot of disconnect happens, where a good manager will try to push the employee a bit outside the comfort zone because that's what that project needs. That's what that business unit needs to get the results they want. And managers usually don't have the luxury of just finding more resources and finding somebody else to come and do the job in a different way. And team members can take that as an opportunity to grow outside their comfort zone and do something

You can automate all of this stuff and cut costs and have more guaranteed results. But how does that make your customer feel when they're walking into a completely automated situation? Especially at a big store? Not with something smaller, but a big store

So therefore you have no choice but to report to that person. And so I can't say that I would be the world's greatest leader if I was in a leadership position. But I've always said I don't want to be a level one leader. I don't want people to follow me simply because I have the title. But they don't respect me. They don't like me. They don't even enjoy working for me. They just do it because I'm the supervisor

@MsColes77 : devilโ€™s advocate version!

So my question to you, Ms. Coles, is what would you have done differently? Even if there is and if that different approach did not land well, what would you then do further differently to make situation work? Because as a supervisor, you are supposed to make it work, is it not? I'd love to hear some of your thoughts. If

And I think people do understand, but I have also seen nasty manager who every aspect of their interaction with the team can be really nasty. And that is what I would term as nasty. I wouldn't really look at managers who are at a certain phase of the business asking people to really up the game. And because of that mount pressure, I think the onus is on the team to really look at the entire spectrum of their dealings with the manager and how they have been supportive at various phases
