So to develop your leadership skills, seek out training, seek help, seek a mentor, read books, articles, and all these things that you were being advised as an individual contributor all this while, now is the time to put it to good use. You may also want to attend some conferences, seminars, listen to bus talk, I don't know. But the best bet is seek out mentors who can within the organization

The part that sometimes is frustrating is when you get someone because this is the position I'm in now where I have a leader who is experienced in the area that they are leading. She's been doing it for 25 years and has only had to manage herself. And so now she has two director ports, myself and my peer. And I too have been in former leadership positions. This is my first non management, still a leadership role. But I'm not leading people, I'm leading myself
