My First Week Without The Mental Pollution Of Facebook

Saved yourself a whole lot of time and money. I was thinking Facebook is kind of unique to my generation. I think we're the last and the first that ever had a huge gap between the time since we graduated high school. And when we reconnected with those people again online, in many cases, there was literally 20 years of complete unawareness of what people had been up to

First off, props to you, sir, for getting rid of something that was bothering you. I mean, isn't that unfortunate? So many people have to continually do things they don't want to do to keep up with the challenges and other of people not saying that's completely why you're doing it. But yeah, Facebook has changed. It was a place for College kids, classmates to talk about their test or who was the hottest chick

All right. I deleted that last one because on my end, it sounded like it was playing strangely. I don't know. Might be a problem on my end. So what I was saying first off, Mt was laughing at the fact that you said that Catholicism has produced more. And you paused. And I was expecting you to say atheist. But you said p*** actresses that cracked me up. So when I hit 6th grade, I had a teacher that was a Jesus fanatic

It sounds Mike condescending, but it just started to feel like a mess that we're just philosophical ideas that I feel like you should know by the time you're 20 and I'm a little older than that kind of stuff, it just all became. I don't know. Valueless valueless is, I guess the best way to put it

Yeah. You know, Dewuan, we'll never escape political conversation. That's not going to go away. But the dividing line between Swell and Facebook and Twitter, you can't post a meme, right? Like you can repeat a meme, but the people here, I think, would realize quickly there's no value to your contribution. The other thing that separates that is, let's take Facebook, for example. Right, Mike, you've hidden someone. You realized you and them

I am always of the belief that your social media experience should be something that you should. It should be tailormade for you and how you want it to go. So my grandma, my mom, my dad ad. They see the same s*** as everybody else. I don't feel any need to censor myself. I express myself fully, and that's why people enjoy the content that I do provide and put out there

Joe, I am nine months free of Facebook. I deleted it in December of 2019, and I am thinking about downloading it again specifically because is I home school and a lot of the home school giveaways a lot of the home school live chats and things of that nature are held on Facebook, unfortunately, and I'm not excited about it whatsoever. But anyways, I too deleted it because it felt like too much drama. And I was one of those people that caused a lot of that drama

Yeah, on Facebook. And I think I'm coming down with a cold. I don't know if you hear that. There's a lot of raspiness going on. I hope it's not the covet. If it's the covet, this might be the end of me. Who knows? Anyway, on Facebook, I guess if I was known for anything, I can Photoshop, I do a bunch of stuff like that, and I write

The aftershocks of leaving FB.

But they weren't the sole reason for me leaving Facebook, like the company. I mean, yeah. Anyway, I did notice some strange dynamics after I deleted it. There's an assumption that people have that you're going to be on the platform, that you're going to see their posts, their photos, etc. And that you're going to be in the loop

@AverageJoe FB get thethee AWAY from my contact list! AND my data!

I had never thought about that. If you have a personal and business, then you're really stuck. But real quick. I don't know. You probably already came to the conclusion that you could outsource that to a virtual assistant or real life assistant who manages that page for you. And it's hard if you're the business owner you want to be hands on, but whatever you can delegate, especially just in that specific arena, maybe it's just advertising

I don't think I've ever seen anything like this before. And so I'd go on just to goof around about stuff. And next thing I know, I'm reading some inane Babel, rejecting fact, rejecting what's right in front of your eyes, pretending that comments that were clearly made on video were not made. It felt like I was at the Mad Hatter's tea Party. I was Alice. I'm watching madness all around me

I'd imagine within the next year or two, more and more people are just going to bail on the platform because as a lot of you have already said, there's just nothing of value there, and you end up coming across way too many people. Like I have said to Joe again, a lot of unremarkable people doing unremarkable things that for some reason Garner an awful lot of attention and support from other unremarkable people

Swellcasting outside of swell ;)

You know, lately, I've been watching myself on texts with friends, and instead of texting, I've been doing complete voice texts because I just don't feel like texting does justice to what I'm exactly meaning and voice text do that exact message with all the intonation and all the personality. So I think I'm doing swell casting all over the place. It's kind of fun

Socialism is what many of my ardent friends would point out. So important. It's important to civilize capitalism that I grew up with a little bit of a caring community spirit for those who make the system work, serve our tables, who do the hard work and actually don't get paid a lot for it. All right. I rambled enough. Good. Swell, cast. Thanks for sharing

I am right there with you, Deborah. This morning, I was in a kind of a group chat on Signal with some friends. And I also chose to just send voice messages because it's easier. It's more accurate to what you're trying to say. Yeah. I'm falling into this habit. In fact, now that we're talking about it just the idea typing a post on Facebook is very unattractive suddenly, for a number of reasons. But yes, I totally agree

And he said, That's who I was until my company sent me to live in Denmark for three years. And he said, in short order, I started to notice that, well, all the things I heard about the socialist country of Denmark weren't exactly true. And there was value to having College paid for. There was value to not having to worry if you got sick, if you would be taken care of, if you would lose everything

Adding to the sentiment... @AverageJoe @topgold

But as time has gone by and the more that I see how things are here, how things are in other countries that shifted and more specifically, and more recently, over the last few years, much more towards my heart being here for much of the same reasons that you've discussed and even things like feeling safer, like when some of those shootings happened, the one in Orlando, I would come back to the US every summer for five to six weeks to stay in Vegas for the World Series of Poker

I hate the fb feed

And I stopped looking at the feed. I tell a lie. I really stopped looking at the feed in 2017 after Brexit after the Brexit vote because it got ridiculous and annoying and awful. Man, too political, like you said, lies being spread and all kinds of s***. And the other thing is that people that I know seem to have a completely different personality on Facebook, people that I know and love

So I'm underwise I could be with someone who's posted to the most ridiculous crap, but I don't even know. So I don't care. And if they want a reaction from me from their post, they're not going to get it because I'm not even aware I once had somebody delete me from Facebook because she fell out with me and then got upset with me because I didn't know that she deleted me. I just didn't even know. How could you not know?

Hey, Mark, Pro tip. We know it's a harmful effect to power your life with dopamine we know that's a problem? We also know it's a good thing to stay connected to groups that share a common cause, especially if you're coaching behaviors in that group. So pro Tip I don't go to the Facebook app to the standard newsfeed

@SeekingPlumb lexicon needed

Christina, I wish I could slip into the Irish culture as elegantly as you are into the Canadian culture. My problem is my disqualifier is the American accent. I do confuse people in Ireland with my accent because it's not Irish. It's not American. It could be Canadian. It's more mid Atlantic

I'm not bothered about the feed, man, but I do have a bit of an addiction to Swell. I found that like I said, apart from WhatsApp and what's happening when I'm talking to people, I don't consider that a social media app. I just consider a messaging app. Swell was my number two. Like I said, by one by ten, I don't really looked at it for an hour and a half. I was like, how did I do that?

Slipping into the culture... @topgold

You know, Bernie, sometimes I wonder how well I really am fitting in, because if I end up talking to American friends who are like, you sound so Canadian. And when I spend time with Canadians, they'll hear, especially when I'm tired. U. S. Actors accent come out. But because I traveled a lot with that theater company, it's easy for me to pick up an accent and spit it out to some extent

But there's a few other words that I'll hear it every once in a while. Sometimes you'll sound completely American, and then it pops up. It's almost like if you're not really paying attention, you might not catch it sometimes. So you have begun to be assimilated, sir. Hey, I was wondering because I don't know if you mentioned it or not. And if you did it's probably because I'm dopey and miss a lot of things

But I wonder if it's because I went to high school in San Francisco Bay Area. I still live in the San Francisco Bay Area, and so many of us are immersed in tech culture here in Silicon Valley that we just either ignore the politics or carefully cultivate feeds so it doesn't show up. I wonder

The Social Dilemma

Yeah, this showed up on my small feet at a very opportune time because I just finished watching The Social Dilemma, which is a new Netflix documentary that comes out tomorrow, and I use well, as a way to have people sign in and leave voicemails for our podcast. And that conversation that we're able to have with people is light years above the sort of comments and basic spam that our Facebook page gets for me in particular, I haven't looked at my Facebook feed in a few years now
