We have come a very long way since art first became a thing. But is art simply a means of creative self expression? Or is it more than that? Does it have to have an impact on the viewer or receiver of said art? Or is the artist the only one that really matters in terms of the emotional impact? Maybe it's easier to answer the question, what isn't art? I'm not sure

I totally agree. Even when I was asking this question, I was like, I am going to be very surprised if anyone gives an answer that fully encompasses the complexity and vastness that is art. But that being said, I think the choice to not define it in and of itself defines it in a way because it implies what is arts be defined? It's beyond definition. It's beyond being one thing that can be described, which is really cool

I think that if we had to define art in its purest sense, I guess. And based on the conversation going on here, it has to be selfexpression. And I do think yes, who decides what art is? Obviously, if we're going to talk about collectible art or art that is valued by someone other than the artist, then we start to put parameters

Sometimes I don't even know why I'm creating something. Like I will see something in my mind and I'll make it. And so many people will interpret it in different ways. And I'll be like, wow, I wasn't even thinking of that, but that's cool. I think that's what art is, that it's the ability to create something and then have so many people weigh in and feel their own emotions on it or no emotions, right
