#AskSwell | Parents, is the conversation on book bans pointless?

I mean, I would be thrilled if my children were sneaking out to read an age inappropriate book, because what I worry about and what I kind of see happening is there's so much access and exposure to inappropriate content so easily in all other kind of forms of media out there that books are, like, almost an afterthought in my parenting

#parenting #bookbans I love books, but unfortunately they are the least important media form for children these days

And I think that the media really magnifies things in a way that's almost preposterous. But it's serious. My kids just as testing I'm just testing to see if they're going to talk about it or not. They don't mention things like that at all. They don't really know anything about books being banned and all that sort of stuff. Or books that talk about LBGTQ. Plus I don't know

Hi, Devon. Thank you for a reply and thanks for kind of validating my point that this is not a big deal as it comes to your own parenting. And that's what I see with many of these issues. They are picked up and blown out of proportion and made into huge symbolic culture war kind of issues. When actual parents in their day to day life, their priorities, what actually takes apart time as parents in terms of upbringing of our kids, what should they be exposed to?

And so this was her conclusion, that they wanted to ban it for anti Semitic reasons. But they also found this little interaction that they considered to be promoting homosexuality. And so, anyways, I think it's interesting when people think that banning books is effective, when there's TikTok videos that are being spread amongst these kids with the list of all the banned books

@arish A personal story and some opinions. Also, I love my parents for surrounding me with books in spite of everything going on in their lives.

I'm not a parent, but I'd like to share something that my father did when I was a kid. Not I'm not from a financially well to do family. Of course things have changed since. But when I was a baby, or say in first standard, second standard, there was absolutely no money in the house
