Do you prefer touch screen interfaces in car? Or old school buttons?

But what I would like to hear from you really is your own experience. If you have driven any of the newer cars, what have you liked about the interface? Has it been helpful? Has it kind of the minimalistic kind of single screen having most of the functionality which gives it and which is flexible in many ways?

@arish I think as we move towards electric mobility, fully digital consoles are inevitable. Personally I prefer a mix of digital & analog. #future

And a lot of the times what I feel this could be a personal bias, but I feel that these days car manufacturers are all focused on cramming as much technology as they can into the console, or trying to update their console and their cars with the latest technology or the most talked about technology. And a lot of the times these updates are being done without any real life testing. I feel car manufacturers don't invest the time in real life testing

But I guess in the same sense, it's no different than trying to turn the knobs and checking to see where the temperature is. Because I have to still do that, because my car in that way is still button operated for that. So I think it's a person. I do think it's a person. I do think that at some point, some people who are more analog driven mindsets versus digital people will find it more cumbersome to drive with flat panels versus buttons

@arish (Ha! I meant dim to a DARKER colour. 🤦🏻‍♀️)

I do like having buttons on the steering wheel with respect to being able to manage music, tracks and volume and so on. I don't use any of the features around answering the phone or anything like that, so I can't speak to any of that dealing with the temperature and the vents and AC and heat and all of that. I prefer buttons for all of those things, buttons and dials and stuff. Same thing with heated seats. Prefer those to be buttons as well

In fact, correcting myself, but being a very kinesthetic myself, there is a problem with taking an example of an iPhone, that back button, still we crave for that. We need that back button and sometime it irritates us. So buying a car, in fact buying an automatic car, some people, they don't relate to that driving experience. That doesn't give you that driving experience. Why? Because again, you need those practicality, that human touch over there

I love technology and so I don't mind technology in my vehicle, but I don't find it to be cumbersome either way. I love it, actually. And I've driven vehicles that were even more technological than mine, but still they had push button capabilities as well. I don't think that cars will ever probably go 100% touch screen

I do like the interface of the touch screen, but then sometimes it can be a little bit frustrating because whenever it gets, like, some touch on it, then I have to go ahead and just wipe it off, and then it messes up with everything else. But, yes, I do like my touch screen rather. I guess I can be old school and useful at the same time

I also think that it depends a lot on what kind of applications are built into the car because for some things like the radio or maybe just MP3 music kind of applications, well, you could just work it out with a much simpler interface using real switches and buttons like it used to be in the past. But for some other new applications, kind of like GPS or whatever, it could be much more complicated if we try to build a lot of buttons and each one has only one use
