Supreme Court Justices should have term limits - are you For or Against?

There should be Term Limits on Supreme Court Justices this is the topic for today's for or against debate. Representative Rokuna, who is a Democrat member of the House from California, has put forward a bill to enact term limits on Supreme Court justices. He recently tweeted about it, and I've included a link to the tweet in the description below. If you go to the Twitter thread, you will see that a lot of conversation there is based on a very partisan and you are losing

But for me, like a lifetime appointment for something that is so critical and essential for a country's running in progress seems a little bit dated because we've seen these Supreme Court appointments and judges, they aren't speaking to the country, they're more speaking to the influence that politics parties have over them

@arish (I neglected to say that "as we age" we can create more entrenched neutral pathway ruts.)

I mean, some of them need to be revoked and haven't don't walk your alligator down the road or have a bath on the street. I mean, they're unnecessary. But anyway, I digress. I think that they're important for a variety of reasons. Let's just put it at that. Term limits, that is

@SeekingPlumb Looking at the reasons why.

So I think it begs the question, the rhetorical question to be asked is what happens if judges are making decisions to placate political interest instead of making judgments that are guided by law and judgment? Now, if you were to say that that is the case, wouldn't you have to have to impose term limits on Supreme Court Justices?

@Phil

In some ways, it's kind of funny that we even could imagine, think, believe that somebody is going to put aside all of their political views in order to fulfill a job, not just for a period of time, but for their entire lives, when, for one, they are nominated by a president of a particular party. And then Congress has to vote for or against

Against term limits

Absolutely against term limits because that's an institution that we benefit more if the people who are in it are really ingrained in the system that they are at the very top of. So for them to be in that seat longer serves us better. Because it takes a few years for a justice to really get into the mingle of things anyways. I don't care how experienced you are, those cases are so nuanced and there's so much going on that this person really needs to be all up in it
