Jesus AND Therapy

article image placeholderUploaded by @AnngieKaye
If you want to say I need Jesus, not a therapist, make that declaration of leaving it be. But when you throw you at it as if you're pointing a finger at people and you're trying to influence people to do this down the other, that's where I have a problem. Grown folks are able to live their own lives. If you never want to step foot in a therapist's office, feel free, but don't make someone else feel like they shouldn't do that

Because honestly, what I. What I do is not life or death. I do work in a 24 hours facility for those that have mental health and addiction issues. So, yes, their lives are very important, but we handle things on the money side of things. I just pay the bill to make sure that they still get the services they need. So I'm not direct care with the patient

That's what he did besides pray for you and all that other stuff, too. But as I've seen religion for myself and church and all of these things, my vision or my views are a little. I guess the word is skewed, right? I still have faith. I still believe. But mixing all these things together and just seeing is like we're saved by our own faith. Sometimes we don't know what to believe

And so that's why I'm okay with not one size fits all, because it really doesn't. And when I think about somebody saying, you don't need therapy, that's, that's, that's a really audacious statement, because we don't really know what people have gone through. You know, I didn't see, I think about when I watch stuff on the news, and I think about after the story, right?

We say it, but we don't really believe it, because if we did, then we wouldn't be saying, you need Jesus, not a therapist, because you need both. Well, I need both. Let's just say that. And like you said, people been through a lot in life. There's nothing wrong with seeking therapy. You know, I've been to a therapist. I work in therapeutic care, so there's nothing wrong with it

I can't say that it was the missing piece. I did it because I realized I was dealing with some things that I couldn't really put a language to. And it was affecting, you know, some of the church traumas and things that I had gone through was affecting the way I was relating to people. And I was going through a season of extreme anxiety. And so I went to a therapist because I wanted to learn more about tools on how to kind of combat some of these things

Yeah, it's crazy. You also mentioned mankind building farms and producing produce. That's another thing, too. We forget about the practicalness of life, you know? Yes, God provides, but is he going to tell you to go to that farm to go get that food? Yes, but who grew the farm? He put the systems in place that, you know, the rain and the sun will nurture these plants, but somebody got to go plant it

Hey, Tanya. Good morning. Thanks for offering a very balanced perspective on this. I agree that we should at some point graduate from therapy, but only God knows when that graduation is. And I just say that because, you know, what folks have been through. I don't know, like, I've got some traumas, but like I was saying in response to somebody else, when I read things on the news or hear about it, I always think about the after effect

But, you know, I think that the issue is when people exalt therapy above Christ and when people feel like God can't heal me without therapy. You know, therapy was for wealthy people. At one time, average working class people could not afford therapy. Now that has changed because therapy is being offered as a medical benefit. So a lot of people's insurances cover it. That's how I was able to do it

So, like, you call someone who has a specialty to deal with certain things. Sometimes they have some really complex emotional, psychological trauma that only someone who's really trained can deal with. And sometimes there are some deep spiritual issues that only someone who's a pastor, someone who studied in scripture, and other spiritual issues can really help you with. But I think people need to have the opportunity to seek counsel or help. And all from all avenues

That's the only difference. So when we just take away the titles and we look at the bishop benefits of what services are being provided, you know, as far as someone giving us tools, prayer, journaling, you know, there are some religious, you know, christian therapists out there. I went to christian therapy before, and they do start off with a prayer, and they may end with one. They may even start in between, stop in between and say a prayer as well

And they happen to be a surgeon. They happen to be a psychiatrist. They happen to be, you know, ob GyN. We got him in my church. And so that's what I like. They take the spookiness out of medicine, and. But the church had counseling set up, and it wasn't with the pastor. They had actually had psychiatrists, christian psychiatrists, who were doing counseling sessions, and that's who you sign up for. And the pastor also had

And I kept trying to get her to a clinician. I was like, well, what's your daughter's name? Let me get you to clinician. I'll bring you to, you know, I'll send you to our mobile crisis unit. She's like, well, I already left a message. They don't, you know, I left a message. They know what's going on. I just needed someone to talk to, and so listen to her five minutes
