What are you thoughts on Jill Scott’s remake of the Star Spangled Banner? Be respectful of differing viewpoints

And then they go out and they start killing people, or they get pulled over by the police. And now it's a big thing, and somebody ends up with their life being taken, and it's not the police officer. So we really need to stop putting this

But other than know, I don't have ties to any African nation. I only have a passport to one country, and that's America. And so I'm not going to go as far as say, if you don't like it here, leave. I'm not going to say that. But this is our know. If we built it up, it was built up on the backs of slaves. Let's continue to build it because where else we gonna go?

It is something that has been kind of been addressed by a few people over the past few years, but just a lot about how a lot of the art and the music and the media that we take in, a lot of it is geared towards the trauma of black people. When we look at certain songs or most songs that are geared towards our community, movies that are geared towards us, what are we watching? We're looking at slaves. We're watching slave movies

Thank you, both of you ladies. Thank you for commenting, and thank you for your opinions and your opinions and your responses. I'm with Ange. When I did my ancestry DNA, it said Nigerian Spain and Indigenous Mexico. That's what mine said. And it said Nigeria. But I never been overseas. And a lot of people, when I say this, a lot of people are like, oh, that's just so ignorant to say

I want to be supportive of whoever took the picture of the young men in the t shirts that said please stop killing us. I want to be viewed as someone that is supportive of educating and understanding the very important need to foster cultural understanding. You also stated that it is not all police officer violence. Some are from black on black crime. Some abuse are from racist black police officers. I want to make a holistic view on that

Jill Scott's lyrics was how she felt. Jill Scott's lyrics are truth. I detected no lies in her lyrics. I detected comfort of sharing her feelings in her lyrics. I am supportive of Jill Scott. I don't have anything negative to say about her lyrics. And again, I want to be supportive to anyone that has my same background or cultural experience, cultural awareness, and today exercising her freedom of speech without the fear of losing herself and

My mother was highly sought after for heart surgeries. And anytime they had a heart surgery, she was required to come in. It wasn't can you, it was a requirement. So my mother, she defied the odds. And so she taught us, and my father taught us that white people can't hold you back. They may put an obstacle in your way, but they can't hold you back

And all of those, every last one of them have been because a black person put a gun in their hand and shot it at another black person, having been not one police killing. So, yeah, I do have a problem with her making it seem like the only people that are killing black people in the United States of America is police, because that just ain't true. It just ain't true

But let's put it in context. For one thing, and I said this on another swell, two thirds of the slaves that were transported from Africa or from that part of the world to the Western hemisphere, two thirds of those slaves were dropped off in Central and South America. Only 6% of the slaves that came from Africa were dropped off in the United States

They don't want to have to go to court to testify about why they had to shoot and kill somebody. They want to go home to their families. They want to live a life of peace also. So no, I'm not going to have my children living in fear. I refuse to live in fear

The level of respect we have for ourselves is at an all time low. You got all these young women making rap songs about how their vagina looks, making rap songs about how they can give good blow jobs, making rap songs about how wet they are, making rap songs where they are rubbing and grinding upon other women on stage. I heard at the Essence Fest they were twerking all over the stage. For what? Don't have no idea. Visiting African landmarks and twerking on their property

I don't think that because I've come across people that's sick and tired of being sick and tired. Sometimes people start talking about they just want to, you know, begin to match ignorance. I would say ignorance, but they want to match that level of violence and that intensity, and I don't think that it's the best thing to do

Hello, Neo. This is listen, this is a place where you can say whatever it is you feel like you need to say. I mean, you don't have to censor yourself on my account. Like I said when I first opened up the Swell, I want people to dialogue. I want it to be an open dialogue. And I welcome people with differing views, you know, because I'm not always right. Maybe I can learn something. You know?

@MsColes77 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

I cannot walk around as a Christian, and yet still every opposite way of being black. What sense does that make? What sense does that make? I'm going to walk around born again and yet still, well, not quite enough for this world. The Devil is a whole liar. So thank you for everything you said. I'm sitting here applauding you and I'm finished
