And she was like, I couldn't buy you stuff for your house, pots and pans or just things for your home, and that would be an acceptable birthday present. And I was like, yeah. No, I mean, maybe like a comforter set, a really expensive comforter set or something like that, maybe. But typically, no, your birthday is your birthday, so it should be stuff that you're going to enjoy, you're going to use, and you're going to enjoy

So sometimes you just don't know what to do, what to expect, what you're going to open up a gift and see. You just don't know. So this is a really good question, and it's an important one as well. It's something that should be talked about. At one time, we used to hear it's, the thought that counts. I guess now it's the amount of money that you spend that counts

And so he was like, well, what is acceptable Christmas presents? I said, Well, I don't know what your wife likes because of course, she's a white woman. So I'm like, I don't know what she likes

You give somebody a gift card, they go buy their own gift. I like that, right? That's my preferences. But for me, it really is the thought that counts. It doesn't matter how much money somebody spends on a gift. It's really the thought that counts. I always tell people some of the best gifts that I've received have been from my children, and they made them themselves. They made me cards, and they made me different things

Hey, Andrea, just want to circle back. You know what I think it boils down to? And I think you said it, it's just knowing the person. I think that's the important part. And I'm going to be honest with you, this is why I don't really rock with a lot of Christmas gifts. I definitely think the holiday is way too commercial, way too just whatever

It. I often have this talk with my husband that appliances to me are not gifts. You know, appliances are for the house. It's not for me specifically. It might be for me to use, to cook, or to clean with, but that's not a gift to me. A gift is something I can enjoy that's tangible and directed only to me. So I agree with that's. Not really a gift that's directed towards you

But as far as a personalized touch to it, I think if you're a baker or things of that nature I like those household gadgets and stuff, but I never asked for them, because I was always told that you don't buy that's not what you buy someone as a gift other than, like, housewarmings or weddings. And I was just like, wow, okay. But you have made it make a little bit more sense to me
If you want to be surprised on your birthday, then be surprised. I think giving people parameters of what you do and don't like would be wise if, you know, there's a lot of people coming so that you don't get upset like you said you would be if someone gave you a gift. That's an appliance. There's no fun being upset on your birthday

And so that's what they would do. So they called it Taxmas. So they would get their PlayStations and they TVs and all of those expensive gifts and I would get them gifts for Christmas, but they would get the expensive gifts during Taxmas. And so they liked it. I liked it, and it worked out for all of us. So yeah, gift giving, you have to make it fit you. And if somebody's not grateful for a gift, you give them that

I said to me appliances like air fryer, vacuum cleaner, steam cleaners, those type of things, those are good gifts to give on Mother's Day to me. Those are good gifts to give on Mother's Day, father's Day, you know what I mean? Those are good gifts to give on those days. But your birthday is just about you. Your birthday is special to just you, right?

It's. Oh, no problem. That's a part of what we're on this app for, right? We're learning from each other. And not always because we're looking to be taught something, but just sometimes listening to different people's opinions and different people's thoughts on different topics, we get a different perspective. We get a change in perspective, right? We learn things. I'm always grateful for whatever I get

The gifts are a bonus, you know what I mean? The gifts are bonus. My love language is quality time. So for my birthday last year, my children took me out to eat for my birthday and they all gave me some money, but they invited my pastor, his wife and their children out because those are my children. My pastor's children are my children too. And so that was enough for me

And so, hey, if you want to gift me with something that typically runs about $700 to $1,000, depending on the brand and the quality, then that is fine with me. That saves me money. That way I ain't got to buy the dryer myself. So I'm happy with that. But yeah, I mean, for me now, small appliances, not so much. I don't want a toaster, I don't want a can opener

But I think if somebody really knows who you are and they know you, then they try to find gifts that will make you happy. At least that's what I do. I try to buy gifts for people that I know they'll be happy about. And then that's why I have a hard time holding on to gifts for people because does I'd be so excited to see their response because I just know they're going to love what I got them that I don't want to wait on

First of all, it just reminds me that my fibromyalgia is progressing and what I can do, I'm limited on what I can do. So why would I want to be sad on my birthday that I'm limited on what I can do? What sense does that make? Also, I'm not a domestic person. I'm just not. Some people are, I'm not. So anything domestic that you give me, it would have to be for Christmas or for Mother's Day

But, yeah, no, I will be looking at somebody like, they're crazy. Chey handed me that for my birthday. But I definitely feel you. I am a baker. I love baking and cooking new foods. Like, this whole social media trend and adding recipes and stuff. I enjoy it. I have so many saved, and I do go back and actually make them. So, yeah, I'm definitely a foodie. I am definitely the foodie friend
